Easily my favorite game from 2022, and very possibly my favorite game since playing Link to the Past when it was first released. If you like games with mysteries that leave you feeling like "I AM THE SMARTEST MAN ALIVE" when you solve them, Tunic will almost certainly be your jam.

I didn't seek this game out directly, it came bundled with something else I was interested in. I'm glad I decided to play it on a whim. Had I not, I probably would have (mistakenly) written it off as some kind of Mavis Beacon "learn to type" thing from the name.

It's actually a quite lovely little game. The art style, music, and method of storytelling all create a lot of atmosphere. It's not designed for learning to type, but typing is one of the core game mechanics. And unlike some other typing-based games I've played before, it feels like an interesting challenge as you get deeper into the game rather than just an exercise in increasing frustration.

Oh hell naw.

Game is listed as Linux-compatible, but I have yet to find any friends (myself included) that can get the game to start on Linux. Uses some 3rd-party authentication / overlay thing that breaks the Steam overlay for me on Windows. At launch, players weren't able to create/join sessions, and private games were disabled entirely. Compared to the original, this seems to be about half "point-release update" and half "buggy regression".

Seriously, the hell?

This game is seriously good, and would be even if it weren't FREE.

Good story, good music, interesting play mechanic, good stuff all around. Not super long, and heavier on story than gameplay, but I'm not sure I'd count either of those as a huge negative. As long as you don't go into it expecting some bajillion-dollar AAA project, you're in for a fun time. Looking forward to seeing what else Compulsion comes up with in the future.
