as i stand in the rubble of what used to be a poor iraqi farmer's home, mortar shells go off all around me, tiny shards of shrapnel breeze past me and cut through my skin. i hear my team yelling for me but i cant understand them. my mind tells me to move forward, as my survival instinct is to go for cover. im too slow and i cant think. one more mortar shell hits right in front of my feet. the last thing i hear is my name being yelled by my team leader. the last thing i see is dust. it all goes black.
