The game started out promising two years ago. Unfortunately, as is ever more common in the industry, the game has received very few patches and is still in a woefully unfinished state.

Moving on to the meat of the game, enemy variety is somewhat small and the enemies themselves are pretty boring and uninspired: the main source of difficulty in the game tends to be their tendency to transform any arena into a bullet hell, which is not helped by the limited mobility of the PC. Level design is also not good, with way too many open areas where enemies spawn in unintuitive places.

I do not reccommend this game, especially for 21 €. This is almost a scam.

I mean it's Dark Souls, it can't be bad right?

It's a great game, fun, challenging, somewhat infuriating at times, even if you're a souls veteran - enemies are hyper aggressive compared to 1 and especially 2.

PVE-wise, it is the most polished and streamlined souls experience ever; PVP-wise it has its flaws, characters are too fast and mistakes are too hard to punish, encouraging fast weapons or weapons with hyper armor / poise (contrast with 2, where characters are slightly slower with less stamina and PVP is more balanced as a result).

Great music, incredible bossfights, though a little anime sometimes, especially in the DLCs.

BEST SOULS GAME

Infinitely replayable. Least broken PVP in the series, where every build, no matter how stupid or gimmicky is viable if you're good enough. The world design and the boss design are lame at times, but there are some of the best boss fights in the series. I love this game

Way too much trial and error involved with the bossfights. I can see the appeal for some but I can't really find it fun, your character is slow, your weapon is slow, and every enemy you're facing is huge and fast. You can't really hope to kill most bosses in one try because of all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they suddenly pull, which, compounded with the fact that everything is a OHK, and the fact that your character is S L O W, means you can't really react and die very quickly.

The thing is, whenever I died, I didn't get the typical "oh I see that's what I got wrong" reaction that you typically get from games like Dark Souls. No, with this game, it always feels like complete and utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Other than that, the game looks fine and the soundtrack is great, so overall it's a 4/10. My only regret is not trying the demo first. Wouldn't have bought it.

I had the pleasure of playing the demo of this game (known then simply as "Ray Bibbia") at the Comicon in Naples in 2017. I was immediately surprised by how well the bullet-hell and quick-type mechanics blended together. The full game is just as awesome as I expected; here's a quick list of what i consider the strenghts and weaknesses of this game:

Strengths:
it's a one-of-a-kind game;
the pixel art is GOOD;
the music is BETTER;
and all in all, it's really really fun!

Weaknesses:
the tone and pacing of the dialogue is kind of weird and uneven, plus, there's the occasional typo here and there, which makes me (an italian native) wish there was an italian version to better appreciate the humor the developers had in mind;
the game is pretty linear (well at least as far as I've come) and is basically a boss rush, and makes me think about how awesome it would have been if you could actually explore the world of the Textorcist in a sort of JRPG fashion with climactic boss battles. Overall, I think the story would have benefitted from a more serious tone, and some characters feel like they try too hard to be funny.

CAUTION: this game is hard as BALLS. BALLS!

Tl;dr the game is awesome, its weak point is mainly the story and the unevenness of its tone overall. But that doesn't affect the experience that much.
8/10 definitely recommended
