Bloodwash is an atmospheric horror game that came out of nowhere.

There's been a serial killer going crazy recently, but you NEED to get your laundry done at the local laundromat. During this time, you'll meet the store owners and shoppers at the local strip mall while your laundry is washing. You'll be reading newspapers and learning from conversations that something dark happened here, but it's up to you to find out what really happened. For being a relatively short game (I clocked just under 2 hours), I've found myself thinking back on it quite a bit. Definitely recommend if you're into quick horror experiences that are still quite unsettling.

Superliminal is a great breath of fresh air in the puzzle-game space. It brings creative puzzles mixed with altering the size of items based on your perspective means you get tons of unique puzzles and solutions. To add to this, the humor and story elements really make this game have its own personality. I won't lie and say I completely understand this game's story, but I did really enjoy the bits I comprehended. The interesting story beat of this game turning into a horror game was definitely up my alley (and the secret dog ending was GREAT). Overall, this game goes on sale for ~$10 usually and I can definitely recommend it at that price point. Tons of fun.

By the same devs behind the classic browser game Kingdom of Loathing , West of Loathing is a short turn-based RPG that takes place in a comical western setting. The writing is easily the best part of the game, as it's one of the funniest games I've played. Every character, random encounter, conversations, etc. are well worth reading.

Combat is fine, but pretty bare bones. It's your standard turn based battle system with a new coat of paint. Nothing to write home about, but I do have a soft spot for short RPGs that don't waste the players time to hit that 40+ hour mark. (Costume Quest, Penny Arcade games, and others are some of my faves.)

This game was meant to be played multiple times to experience everything. I definitely missed a TON of stuff in my 8 hour playthrough so I'll probably play through it again eventually. Definitely recommend this as, once again, some of the most fun & clever writing I've read in a game. ALSO IT'S ONLY LIKE $11.

I am a firm believer of playing bad games every now and then in order to appreciate smaller details more. Blood Knights is a perfect example of this. I enjoyed my time with the game, but would never recommend it to anyone else. The voice acting is so bad, it's good, the combat is repetitive and unbalanced, the writing is akin to a poor vampire fanfic, and there are a number of technical issues.

However, I enjoyed my time with the game. Playing as the ranged lady vampire, being able to just mow down enemies while acquiring new gear was fun enough for an attention grabber during slow times at work. Overall, a pretty poor game I had a fun time with.

Don't buy this thinking it's going to be great, buy this as a palette cleanser to appreciate the game after this one more as I only recommend it for that reason.

A very short horror experience that seemed to have been heavily influenced by The Strangers (2008). I wouldn't say this game had any issues, just that it didn't do anything memorable or outstanding. I'll probably forget about it within a day or two.

Played this on a whim while waiting for a download to finish and ended up ignoring the download and finishing this instead.

Assemble With Care is a visual novel/very light puzzle game. You play as a handy-woman who has just arrived in a quaint European town. You meet some locals that need their assortment of items repaired and they're coming to you for help. Though these repairs, you learn of their life, interests, and struggles. It's a short and sweet experience and I enjoyed every second of it. I did finish the game craving more than what was given, but I'm very happy with my time spent with it. The writing is great and simple, the narration and voice cast are perfect, and fixing the items is a lot of fun.

Numerous performance issues aside, The Callisto Protocol sets out to be another AAA space survival-horror game, but doesn't exceed the games that heavily inspired it.

Visually, it's easily one of the most gorgeous games I've played, however everything else this game has to offer hovers around average. The story is forgettable and brings nothing new to the table. Combat is fine and improves with the more tools for your arsenal you find, but it never really wowed me with the dodging mechanics as combat came off as pretty bare-bones. Comparing combat to its inspiration, cutting off limbs makes combat more dynamic and strategic; this game's combat lacks both of those things.

The game has a ton of potential, but never fully grasps it. Looking through the cracks, it's quite clear this game was rushed out for the holidays and that's extremely disappointing since more time in the oven could have really helped this game succeed.

All this not to say I didn't enjoy my time. I played through The Callisto Protocol on the hardest difficulty available at launch and I did have fun! Though, I really can't recommend this game in its current state to others for the reasons mentioned above.

Overall, this game tries to be bigger and better than its inspirations, but fails in comparison. Asking $60 for a buggy, short, and disappointing AAA survival horror game is a mistake. If this game launched at $40 and didn't have a ton of performance issues, I would easily recommend it. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I'd recommend this on a sale and waiting for more patches to bring this game to what it should have been at launch.

A quick and fun puzzle game that takes the player back to the cache organization days of classic survival horror. The game really pays homage to that influence with Save Room's aesthetic being spot-on, from the UI to the items, it really felt like I was in the inventory system of the RE games. There's also some jokes to be found within the item descriptions which was a nice touch. I found the difficulty of the puzzles just about perfect, but I'm sure it's quite a task to make a difficulty that suites everyone.

Overall, if you enjoyed sorting your inventory just right in these types of games, then you'll find something to enjoy here. Even if you didn't play the games that influenced this, you'll still find some solid puzzles to spend an evening/weekend with. I definitely recommend picking this up as it's a unique take within the puzzle genre and it's priced extremely well.

Definitely one of the better indie horror games I have played. The overall heart of this game is apparent, even though there are imperfections.

Let's start off with the positives, the scares in this game are done pretty well! There are a few poopy jump scares, but just about all the scares are either atmospheric or seeing something at the corner of your eye. This is my preferred way to do scares; have something in plain view or just out of view and let the player see it for themselves and then half a second later POOF it's gone. Personally, those seem more realistic to me and can stick with you longer. Moving on, the gameplay is basically a walking simulator mixed with a few puzzles. You play as an enigma code decoder, so you will be doing a handful of code decryption. It always looks and sounds difficult, but in reality (as long as you read everything) they're not too bad. It's been a bit for me since there were pretty decent puzzles in a horror game and this really brought it to the table. There are also mini little activities that happen, like lockpicking and "entity tracking". Lock picking is pretty straight forward, nothing new there, but it is done decently well. The entity tracking, on the other hand, is kiiiiiinda lame. The main premise of this is that you have a tracker for things that happened in the past (won't get into the in-game science of it all, but it is explained there) but basically it beeps until you find what the game wants you to. Let's just say a spirit metal detector. Sometimes that it, you just find the spirit and then scan it. However, sometimes there are anomalies that you need to deal with and that stuff is dumb. You find them on your tracker and them zoom in on them and zap em. That's right, you just zap them and that's it. Why is this in the game? Not sure, since it does not contribute to the game/story at all and feels out of place.

Now, speaking of story, it's pretty okay. I don't want to get into too much, but you were gifted a house from your family and things start going south as soon as you move it. The game is seperated by two characters you play as, but for all intent and purposes, it is "Puzzle Character 1" and "Scary Character 2". Meaning, that every other chapter will be about puzzle solving and the other will be the horror game. This is fine, but makes the gameplay predictable. Speaking of that, the story is enjoyable, but very predictable.

Overall, game is deece and a quality indie horror. Pick this up on sale if you get a chance to. Scares are great, but story and gameplay are average at best.

Is this a game? Yes, and a pretty fine one at that!

There is no game is a journey that dives into what makes a game with a little meta narrative. The story and writing is all well done (got a few chuckles from me) and the varied gameplay and environments made me want to stick around for more. Gameplay wise, this is basically a point-and-click puzzle game and it is really good! You're tasked as the "User" and you must navigate different video game genres solving puzzles and getting closer to finding out what the Game is (or who the Game is).

Overall, this is an experience I would recommend to most everyone who enjoys a funny and interesting story with some great puzzles along the way. There is a demo from the same developer called "There is no game: Jam Edition 2015" which is the gamejam submission of this game, but they developed on that idea and There is no game: Wrong Dimension was born. So if you're unsure, try that out first!
