As someone who enjoyed the first game a lot with a friend I very much did not enjoy this this. For a start the online Co op was very poor with a lot of lag for the invited player and frequent rubber banding and issues (we live in the same country and do not have this issues with other games). We tried taking turns hosting and it was always the invited player that had the issues.

The puzzles themselves felt clunky and completely lacked any originality generally doing the same thing over and over again.

This honestly feels like a poor attempt to cash in on the first game being good and reasonably popular.

Really fun game in the style of slay the spire. I like the variety in modifers although it can feel a bit grindy at times.

If you like slay the spire then this is definitely worth picking up.

As of writing I have played over 60 hours of this game and I really did not expect to like it as much as I did. I got it as part of a humble bundle and decided to give it a try as I do enjoy the occasional tower defence game. The story is a bit of fun in silly cartoons and engaged me with playing more to see what happens. However, I really enjoyed the progression both with levelling up and trying out combinations of skills from the three different tech trees and with the different passive buffs you can get for each of the tower types.

Its the progression and ability to go back and player earlier levels for stars or extra resources and have them feel easy because my towers are so much better, But still be struggling to complete later levels without even trying to get the bonus star. The balance is just right making you feel powerful for earlier stuff but still work hard for newer levels.

The game is not perfect and does have some bugs which have caused the game to crash on me a few times and to fail to complete levels when part way through which is very frustrating. The devs are active on the forums and do reply to reports of bugs so it does seem that they are working to resolve them. That said stability does need to be a focus and they need to make the same number of skill points available to all players as currently some of the early access players have more than a new player will ever be able to get.

All in all I would recommend the game although if in doubt you may want to wait for a sale. I guess the highest praise I can give is that I am looking forward to the DLC due soon and will be buying it to play more of the game.

Early Access Review
I briefly played in the closed alpha which was enough to convince me that I really enjoyed the game and buy into the early access. And please remember that is it is early access, its far from perfect yet, there are bugs and optimization issues. That said if you have a fairly powerful rig the game looks great. I play on a GTX1080 and an i7 7700k and the game stays between 50 and 70 FPS consistently.

I love the fact that the risk reward is so much in the hand of the player. If you want to bug out after finding a few clues you will still get some money and more importantly your character stays alive. Or do you want to risk fighting the boss in a protracted gun battle, or do you want to try and ambush other players after they have killed the boss? Although you run the risk that they choose a different exit and you never see them at all.

I have had some incredibly tense moments where I'm alone in a building knowing there are two other plays nearby that don't know I am hunting them. Sometimes it pays off sometimes I end up dead, either way I had great fun.

This game is not a twitch shooter, its far more important that you take your time, plan your movements and stay stealth. But that's not to say when it all goes horribly wrong you can't turn it around with a couple of well placed head shots.

At the end of the day try not to pay too much attention to a lot of the negative reviews from players complaining that it is too campy. In reality I never camp as more often than not other players will just bypass you and take another route. Camping is a thing though and if you cant cope with this game may not be for you.

Really interesting game where the choices you make have a significant effect on how the game plays out. Got this in a humble bundle but i'm really glad I gave it a try and I highly recommend it.
