I just realized my Steam profile picture has been a System Shock character for the last 8 years, actually... So there you go, my recommendation was right there.

Saying that, this rapidly swelling Steam library means I'll probably get round to playing it in around 2015. Still, gotta grab things while they're cheap...

Well to answer that; when I realized from your comment that SS2 is now available on steam, I made an audible inhale and rushed to its store page... I'd say it's worth it of course (just look at the tome of superlative awards listed on the page), but you have to put your mind in the mode of "This is a survival horror game with resource management aspects", because the combat is clunky (adds to the horror) and the ammo, health and tools are scarce (meaningful choices have to be made about whether you "invest" in opening a door or not). As long as you go into it willing to put your brain in that mode (and out of "SHOOTEY SHOOTEY" Bioshock mode), you'll get an immense amount out of the atmosphere. srsly - play it with the lights out - it's the most "horror" game not billed as a horror game that I've played...

Hey, System Shock 2 is on special. Is it worth the cash? Or is that a stupid question given who I'm asking ;) Just wondering if it's dated badly, I'm sure I won't be able to use a controller (oh dear).
