Why I loved (but no longer do love) Binding of Isaac

Binding of Isaac is a game about poop, blood and tears. All 3 of which contain traces of matter that hold information that let you identify who produced them. I enjoy all 3 but with a very high chance for a level to contain poop, it was hard for me to contain my excitemennt.

I was disappointed to find that only on screen characters produce blood and tears. There is little to no mystery. It is obvious who is producing them and why they are being produced. Sadness is everywhere and it's a very cliche and obvious expression of blood and tear production. There is no mystery for the game to be based around. No secrets to unlock. No power to be gained. This is why it's ultimately dissatisfying to play if these aspects are why it's entertaininng to you because this river is very shallow and goes nowhere.

The best aspect of the game is the poop. I believe this is why the game achieved such popularity. Poop is the best. The smell, the texture, the taste, the way it makes my skin feel when I rub it on me. There is barely a use for poop I haven't experienced and love. Walking into a new room and finding poop is the best. There can be many things inside the poop and it's your job to explore it. Poop can contain riches in the form of coins and power ups and even if it doesn't, you still had the fun of exploring poop. This is why I loved the game. Poop was plentiful and I was free to do what I wanted with the poop and the poops contents. Getting the power up that lets you fill the room with poop is euphoric. On first use there has been no game that made me feel as good as the way I felt on that fateful day.

Where the game falls apart is the history of the poop. There is no mechanic that allows you to find who or why the poop was produced. I want to know who put it there so I can inquire as to why, how, and what they ate to give it the texture, taste and smell that it has. I was hoping that a DLC would give me the option to explore these dreams but the developers have said they have finished adding content to the game without adding the mechanics I crave.

♥♥♥♥ them. ♥♥♥♥ Isaac. ♥♥♥♥ everything about it. Uninstalled.

Single player is unplayable thanks to the terrible AI and completely stupid contact physics. A slight bump flips your car. Not fun, not realistic, not worth my money.

I had a great time playing this game. Not much comes close as far as good single player experiences go. Compelling story, great characters with loads of comedy, drama and action. The whole game flows really well, just like the previous Bioshock games. The plasmid stuff did feel kind of tacked on and all I really used was the hacking one to get free cash from vending machines.

If you liked the way the first two games played, you'll love this. Combat is pretty much identical with a much simplified upgrage system for your guns and spells.

As for the DLC, if you've played the first 2 games through and remember the story, it ties up a LOT of loose ends across all 3 games while still being fun.

Great game, just a shame the dev studio got shut down :(

Story takes a little while to take off but once it does it's compelling enough. Not exactly Shakespere but it kept me going. The entire game is pretty much running from one deadly situation to another with a few puzzles in between. Controls and movement were excellent as I was rarely left frustrated at the game, just at myself for not being able finish a level from time to time. The game isn't too hard for people play games regularly. Might be a challenge for some less seasoned vets.

Some concerns though - There were times when my frame rates took a dive. I'd like to see some consistancy. Going from 60 fps to 20 fps at points (mostly during cutscenes) isn't exactly imersive.

Apart from how taxing it is on my computer, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't pay full price for it though, not exactly on the same level as the latest Bioshock but I got it for free with my graphics card so who am I to complain.

Even in 2014, a while 10 years after it came out - this game still rocks.

Don't get me wrong, the graphics haven't aged well but the pacing and gameplay is still amazing. It's on sale about 10 times a year.

Buy it
