the fact that i feel like i paid a bit too much for a game that looks smells tastes and lasts as long as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ fast food meal is actually a vital part of the aesthetic u wouldnt get it

the amateurism here kinda rules: yeah it doesn't always "play well" or whatever but the ugliness of the gameplay weirdly sorta fits with the story delivery of buckshotting Ideas & Imagery at you and not rly caring if you get them or not, & it feels like it's a zelda game purely bc that's the language they felt they could express themselves through. it's a collage of angst that feels desperate to express *something* in a way i cant help but find rly captivating.

also a huge argument for pixel artists to explore the colour wheel a bit more bc this looks 1000x better than so many pixel indies released since despite being visibly rough and having pixel art tutorials in the credits of the game

fantastic game for ppl who are as weary of Epick Endless Feedback Loop Post-Stardew Harvest Moon-Likes as i am, twisting a tired formula back to its basics to allow itself to ruminate on genuinely interesting themes and ideas in really compelling ways. just about everything i could reason as a flaw makes it more interesting to me; i didnt even finish this and im still thinking back on it months later. that's videogames!!!!

CONS: too many references for the setting to feel particularly believable
PROS: you can be incredibly annoying about how you get all of the references in a way that's really funny

not a particularly strong pastiche piece in how pervasively it feels "2003 written in the 2020s" but its less about the space itself and more focused on navigating awkward teenage relationships within it, and i found those really compelling. i knew ppl like most of these when i was a teen; its nice to be able to go back and make then :-) a little bit more

havent played enough to actually have an opinion but giving a thumbs up anyway for being a roguelike i dont clear in my first 5 runs thru my Epicly OverPowered Synergiez !!! or basic transferable videogame skills and get bored and immediately drop. hitting sector 8 all confident and getting my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ opened on camera was genuinely humbling, good stuff. i think it should have a dodge roll button tho

neon white if it wasn't deeply embarrassing to play, AND it was good? these games are never gonna be quite as compelling as a time-trialler with real depth in its movement, but stages being fairly challenging to just clear (particularly later ones) means that at absolute worst it's still challenging me to learn its levels in more detail than its most direct comparison did. cute presentation and music too :)

just remembered this game exists. worst day of my life
