Early Access Review
Positives
-------------
Cool level design (for the most part). Pretty faithful to the lore / videos online of the Backrooms
Good variety of monsters / entities

Negatives
-------------
Technical instability (crashes to desktop, monsters clipping through things, among other problems)
Lack of animations for basic things (death, item usage, peeking)
Monsters sometimes spawn directly in front of you with no chance of escape
Items seem kinda useless

Which brings me to the sanity system. This SUCKS, especially when I'm running from a monster and suddenly low sanity kicks in and screws everything up. Then you have Terror Hotel which just caused me to drink all my almond water in the space of 10 minutes just walking around trying to solve the puzzles. Annoying.

After several stale and boring Tomb Raider titles, this reboot of the franchise has completely turned things around for TR. Short answer: buy this game. It looks incredible, it's FUN, and while not exactly original, the story is engaging and kept me interested throughout its entirety. Gameplay is smooth and interesting - sneak around quietly with a bow, switch over to platforming / puzzle solving, then get into a huge firefight with enemies, all within five minutes - the way the game transitions between these elements feels easy and fluid. Again, the story isn't exactly original, and I was able to see some twists coming. But at the same time, I can't really say this was a detractor from the game. It was still immensely entertaining, and some moments are just jaw dropping (cargo plane, climbing the radio tower, the final ascent - wow). It's an edge of your seat ride well worth the money.

Again, short answer: buy this game. You won't regret it.

This is one of those games that kind of slips under the radar for a lot of people. It's old (if I'm not mistaken it was the first game ever to use the Source engine, yes even before HL2), and it shows its age unfortunately... but damn if it isn't fun.

Lots of witty and smooth writing, different characters / "classes" to choose from, cool setting, and an interesting story to keep you moving through the game. The opening act kind of stumbles a bit, but soldier through it and you'll see the game start to shine.
