⚠ Negative review — solely due to server instability. Will change if fixed.

I genuinely enjoy Overwatch 2. The gameplay, heroes, and design are all solid. This review is not about any of that. It is marked negative for one specific, technical reason: persistent and unfixable lag spikes on the South America (GBR1) server — a problem that, after extensive research and testing, I can confirm is entirely on Blizzard's side.

The Problem

Every match, without exception, I experience 3 to 4 random lag spikes lasting a few seconds each. Ping jumps from a stable ~25–50ms to 150–300ms+ and then returns to normal. The game becomes unplayable for those moments — rubberbanding, missed abilities, enemies teleporting. It happens at any time of day, including late at night when servers are least loaded.

What I Ruled Out (Everything On My End)

Before blaming Blizzard, I spent a significant amount of time systematically eliminating every possible client-side cause:

Wi-Fi adapter (MediaTek MT7921):
  • Disabled U-APSD Support, set Roaming Aggressiveness to Lowest, enabled Maximum Performance power mode
  • Locked adapter to 5GHz / 802.11ax mode
  • Disabled Large Send Offload, Packet Coalescing, ARP/GTK WoWLAN offloads
  • Installed the Lenovo-packaged driver (v3.0.1.1325), confirmed as the community's recommended fix for MT7921 latency issues
  • Enabled MSI Mode (Message Signaled Interrupts) via MSI Utility v3 to reduce DPC latency
  • Disabled WLAN AutoConfig background scanning via CMD

Windows / network stack:
  • Disabled TCP Auto-Tuning
  • Flushed DNS, switched to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1)
  • Set Overwatch 2 process priority to High in Task Manager
  • Closed all background apps, cloud sync, Steam overlay, Discord overlay
  • Opened required Blizzard ports on the router

Routing:
  • Used NoPing (a Brazilian gaming VPN/optimizer specifically designed for Blizzard routing) — spikes persisted identically
  • Confirmed via Ctrl+Shift+N netgraph in-game that I am correctly placed on GBR1 (the São Paulo SA server), not being misrouted to NA
  • Tested at multiple times of day including late at night — no difference

Parallel diagnostics:
  • Ran
    ping -t 8.8.8.8
alongside gameplay — Google ping stayed perfectly stable during OW2 spikes, confirming the issue is not local
  • Monitored netgraph: LAT itself spikes (not just IND/jitter), which means the problem originates server-side
  • All other games (including other competitive shooters) run without any issues on the same connection and hardware

What The Community Confirmed

This is not an isolated issue. After researching Blizzard's own forums, Steam discussions, and Reddit:

  • GBR1 server instability has been documented in recurring waves since at least October 2023, with major outbreaks in Feb 2024, Sep 2024, May 2025 (Season 16 midseason patch), and Oct–Nov 2025 (post-Stadium update)
  • Dozens of threads with identical symptoms exist on the official Blizzard forums — players across Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru on different ISPs all report the same spikes simultaneously
  • Blizzard issued exactly one blue post in response to all of this (a standard troubleshooting request in Oct 2023), with no visible follow-up and no patch notes ever referencing SA server fixes
  • One thread from November 2025 stated the problem has existed since 2018

Conclusion

After exhausting every client-side fix known to the community — adapter drivers, MSI interrupts, routing optimizers, network stack tweaks, and diagnostic tools — the verdict is clear:

The SA servers have had latency issues since 2018. We just want some confirmation that the devs acknowledge what is going on.

The lag spikes are caused by instability in Blizzard's GBR1 infrastructure, not by anything the player can fix. South American players deserve the same server reliability that other regions take for granted.

I will update this review to positive the moment Blizzard demonstrably stabilizes the GBR1 servers. The game itself is good. The infrastructure is not.
