The ASCII version of this game has given me hundreds of hours of enjoyment, and now the new player experience is even better. Once you've got a few attempts under your belt trying to recover from failures gives some of the greatest experiences and stories. There's also enough complexity it's possible to find something new to try even if you start to get comfortable (I still haven't got to min-maxing military in any fortress). Or just seal yourself off with a basic food and brewery chain and watch the ant farm :)

Unskippable cutscenes before every career race, unskippable pre-race cutscenes, unskippable grid cutscenes, unskippable level-up sequences. Plus the hopeless DRM that makes the game fail to launch after a fresh install until you restart steam, be glad EA decided to delist it and shut down autolog (which still gets promoted via unskippable ingame cutscenes).

Castle Story offers few different game modes for different play styles. Personally I prefer sticking with Sandbox or Conquest and building massive structures but Invasion mode offers a good challenge for people who want to master combat. The devs are still updating the game to improve performance with occasional updates to add new structures and events.

This is a great game for just tooling around in the woods, getting yourself into trouble then trying to see if you can get yourself out again. Nominally there is a goal and a way to finish each session but there's not much of a reason to do so. Multiplayer works really well and raises the threshold before you get unrecoverably stuck.

About the only thing I can recommend this game for is giving it to people you want to suffer.

There's very little substance to the game. The levels are simplistic. The presentation (especially the audio) is awful. The main difficulty comes from the laggy controls and the one-hit-kill nature of the hazards. The only reason you'd get more than an hour out of this game would be due to the lack of any respawn mechanics or mid-level save states, or because you're idling for cards.

Grab a big american muscle car and travel sideways across the map or pick up a hypersport and cruise around on rails at 300km/h, Then wreck it and jump into whatever you find close by to do it again :). I think there's a story as well if you're into that.

An upgraded version of the original. While it still assumes you don't know the mechanics and starts off with a tutorial it soon gets incredibly difficult. All puzzles are solvable without guesswork though some require you to consider two or three clues at once to proceed. The only complaint I can make is there's no way to save progress of a partially solved level.

Short puzzler, but a unique combination of mechanics from picross and minesweeper makes an engaging experience.
