Still a bit early in development for average player, I'd only buy this if you are okay with testing and running into issues. The game has the format of mil-sim games like Reforger but is a lot more arcade. A very fun mixture.

Runs just fine on Proton

Good gunplay, decent maps but has that UE5 low budget feeling that is hard to shake off. Not quite up to par with their older games but I think this is the first one they did in early access.

Quite difficult though, there's a tough balance between getting enough resources to survive and the way that enemies escalate, took me a few tries to get a run past 1 minute

This is a solid game that is pretty fun but looks and sounds entirely generic. The developers used a lot of Gen AI during development and it shows, as such I can’t recommend it, but for those of you who’ve been tricked into not caring go ahead and disregard.

This is the kind of game Prophecy should have been making years ago instead of competitive FPS games.

How does this game hold up so well

Turn shadows off and run it on Performant, otherwise it's a clunky mess. I have a hundred hours or so off-steam.

Ember's Adrift is a really good game if you're able to get into it with a group of patient friends, but if you're going to try and solo or rely on pick-up-groups it's always been more difficult to enjoy. It has a slow but deliberate pace and there's a lot of random content to enjoy. It truly is a classic MMO and it has none of the f2p or mtx things you've come to expect.

Basically, if you can stomach how crude it can be sometimes - it is indeed the real deal. However the player count is low for that reason. There is very little immediate payoff. In fact, most of the loot you're going to run into is going to literally be urine and vomit from mobs. I guess that makes the blues all the more important...

I will also say that developers have been somewhat resistent to feedback for the majority of the time I've owned the game, but they do routinely update and address issues with the game so it is what it is. I guess in resisting compromise on your vision comes with pros and cons.

Realistically this is probably one of the best games this genre can produce, but it's 2025 and I can't hit repeat a bandit and rat kill quest 15 times in hopes that the PVP 200 hours from now is good. I get the sandbox appeal of these games but for 99% of people this will be impossible to recommend. I felt absolutely no drive to leave Haven and experience the rest of the game.
