A great game, even (or especially?) by todays metrics, Half Life sets the standards for all linear FPS games that comes afterwards.

Gunplay and movement is fun and interesting. Environments are creative and varied. Enemies are intelligent and challenging. Story is good enough. Most importantly, everything is tied together by the quality that would come to define the half life series: excellent pacing.
