Before this game moved to Epic it was great. Sure the community was always horrendous, but at least the people slamming you for incompetence were, more often than not, actually competent themselves.. But I am not here to talk about the community. I am here to talk about how the game goes if you're not in a 3-man premade team.

You enter the game, there is a 90% chance that one of your 2 teammates is just going to sit there idling. There are literally videos on youtube that I found while looking for some answer to this epidemic that teach you how to download a bot that will make it so the idle-kick mechanic doesn't detect you idling.

All because of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loot crates and XP farming... So.. Now you have a bunch of 10-14 year olds who used to have to ask permission to get a game who just get to join in with no consequence or restriction. On top of that, you have every trade-scammer able to make 200 accounts and just infinitely ruin games with no repercussions..

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Every match is like swimming through raw sewage looking for a platinum turd to make it worthwhile and then, once you think you found it, it's just a regular turd sprayed with chrome. If you don't have enough people to fill a team of your preferred size (2 or 3), who want to play and practice with you constantly.... Don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bother.

It pains me to leave a negative review for this game. Which I like a lot.. It's a strong contender for Stardew Valley despite wearing the same skeleton as that game. I'd even go as far as saying in some ways it's more fun than Stardew...

But then the devs went and did something bad. They're releasing the game fully aware it's not finished yet, and increasing the price as well... Entire mechanics outlined in their "2024 roadmap" indicate the game is no where near complete.. You won't even be able to achieve the best town-rank, work on a major story-element area, or "date" the romanceable NPC's..

The devs are knowingly releasing it in an incomplete state and I cannot emphasize enough how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and greedy that seems. I wouldn't be surprised, based on this action, if they just kept all the proceeds from their Charity DLC (yes they also had a DLC in early access)

For about 20 years I have wanted some sort of sequel or spiritual sequel to the game Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter (PS2).. The game featured a fairly lore-rich galaxy and a decent flow of combat. It was truly something special to me. Ship combat that leads into docking sequences and then you get into the FPS action which is just spectacular. The ability to explore your ship before heading out.

I wanted more, more substance like a ship that actually has its armory fill up and crew seats filled (it was sadly empty throughout MG:BH).

First Rebel Galaxy took me. Amazing ship combat, space exploration... But no real substance when it came to the non-ship segments. Instead of walking around stations you navigate menus... It was aight.

Then No Man's Sky promised everything I wanted and more.. It eventually did, but not for a looooooong slow road to where it is now.. And still the ground-combat in that feels gross.

The Outer Worlds was close, but all you did on your ship was hang out in it.. No space flight at all. Just a fun little house for you to store friends and findings on your adventures.

Now we have Starfield... Is it perfect? I guess not. Is it everything I wanted for 20 years and sooooo much more? Abso-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-lutely.

This game has so much to offer, enough that it could be overwhelming to those with harsh limits on how much time they are allowed to play games. If you like base-building, space exploring, loot gathering, pirate smashing, and dialogue crunching... This is the game for you..

A lot of people are giving this game undue criticism in my opinion. Most of their complaints seem like forced nonsense that with even a little bit of consideration the decisions on Bethesda's behalf make a lot of sense. Sure there are a lot of gaps in the story, goofy/janky dialogue, and some overused assets, but 1: This is steam, meaning you're gonna get the option to mod the game eventually.. and 2: the game takes place only 300 years in the future. Of course corporate-deployed bases are going to be the same exact design (have you ever seen multiple apartments in an apartment complex?)

It takes very little effort to find some sort of head-canon to excuse some of the flaws this game has. And if you want to argue that players shouldn't have to head-canon for a game to work, I will point out that this is a Bethesda RPG and that ♥♥♥♥ is the very meat and potatoes of this type of open-world RPG..

This game delivers more than anyone had the right to expect. And until Star Citizen releases in the year 2121 this will scratch almost every sci-fi itch I can imagine having... Especially once the mods start rolling in.

A Message for the Bullies

You know. The ones who spent the entirety of high school and college picking on D&D Nerds...

You don't deserve this game.

But seeings how I can't stop you from buying or playing it, I CAN wish guilt upon you.. So that's what I want.

Every time this game makes you open your eyes with wonder: That was caused by one of the kids you used to pick on for playing D&D.

Every time this game causes you to lean into your seat with fascination, determination, or sheer exhilaration? Written and programmed by a team of the people you used to try so hard to just make sure their day sucked and that everyone would laugh at them.

If you manage to somehow feel some sort of connection with any of the fictional characters: again. You're enjoying an experience that you used to ridicule and publicly humiliate people for.

So while you play this game, and the sheer awesomeness kicks your brains ass: remember that this was built by the same people you tried to destroy in your youth. That enjoying this game makes you the epitome of a hypocrite, and your only redemption will come from making amends with those kids you used to pick on for simply enjoying essentially the same thing you're about to enjoy.

This game is as close to playing D&D as you're probably ever going to get in a video game. The fact that some of you were once the type who'd laugh at ruining a kids reputation because they dare play a role playing game: well it pisses me off.

You shouldn't be allowed to play this game, and I hope that every time something in it strums your heart string you remember: people like you used to push kids to suicide... Just for playing a different version of this game.

I hope that you decide that from this moment on, stifling creativity and treating the weird kids like they're garbage for being unique: that is just stupid and mean. Not clever or funny. You get to play around with the dreams of the very people who you used to bring down for having dreams that weren't "gonna take the home team to state!"

To everyone else: This game, as is, already gives every other crpg a run for their money, and indeed will likely be the best one ever made. I can't wait to get my ass kicked by the efforts of all those people who made this masterpiece.

Buy this game if it's on sale, and then use mods immediately.

The enemies you encounter will either die from 1 attack, or be resistant to 90% of damage and immune to 100% of status effects.

"_____" failed to overcome targets spell resistance is basically the anthem for this game. So basically half the offensive spells available are useless because casters are gonna want to save spells for bigger fights, and then lose their turn because "mildly more difficult mini-boss" is also immune to everything but straight damage.

Game simply isn't fun as-is.. Can be salvaged with modding, but if you ain't about that don't bother.

I hate to leave a negative review on something I actually enjoy, but I literally can't enjoy it without essentially cheating, so that's bad. If anyone is planning to make a game, please do everyone a favor and make your debuff spells reliable, making every single enemy that is worth trying to use them on immune to all of them is just flimzy design.

I see all the time the most ridiculous ♥♥♥♥ in the "rolls" this game does. It 100% cheats to get an edge, so don't feel bad if you have to cheat as well to stand on equal ground.

If you're one of them "Dark souls is easy" masochists, maybe it'll work for you unmodded, but don't pay these people full money for making half the content in the game unusable.

Frostpunk, but in space.

More than that, this game is stupid hard when it comes to figuring out what to do with resources. Every time I think I got something figured out, I am wrong, and have been wrong for like 40+ days (or cycles) and figure it's better to just restarts.

So why the recommend? Well for one, I don't mind restarting knowing what I have to plan for eventually, but the real meat an potatoes of this game is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story. I want to experience every beat of this masterpiece and then watch netflix or amazon ♥♥♥♥ it up by adapting a high potential series that will be poorly executed (jk I want it to be great but I'm a realist).

I have never been so invested in a story that I will put up with the overwhelming nonsense that this game has thrown at me in the first chapter. So here are my gripes: (kind of spoilers).

1. Constantly needing to feed alloys to the hull repair is stupid. Plain and simple. That mechanic is bad and should be replaced with occasional damage or better yet, only when giant ship moves.

2. Reasearch is too restrictive. By time I even get the points to clear out the research tree I'm facing a food crisis that can't be solved with the meager upgrades to food production I've been able to unlock to research.

3. Don't punish me for saving humanity. I seriously doubt people who have woken up from a cryo sleep are going to wake up and immediately riot against the one and only remaining hope for human survival because they decided to overwork themselves despite nobody asking them to.

That being said, I'm gonna keep trying. If I can figure out Frostpunk, I can figure this out. It's got really good visuals, quite excellent soundtrack, top-notch world building, and generally worth the money despite the frustrations. 8/10

Thankfully the devs reached out to correct my dumb ass about the x-box live thing.

This game manages to scratch a weird itch I have had ever since I was a kid where being shrunk down and fighting spiders might be a fun adventure.

Well, this game delivers... It's one of a million survival games that use similar mechanics but with the fun narrative twist of it being just "a back yard"... I love exploring this place, but sometimes I don't want to be swarmed by spiders.. I get ants, but damn..

Either way, great game for a team of 4 to play around in. A sandbox with an actual sandbox in it is something that shouldn't be overlooked.

This game...

I have rarely seen something be such a hot mess yet manage to hook me like it can. It has one of the most infuriatingly bad plots but some really neat world building. It has the worst character development and emotionless sacrifices I have ever seen attempted, yet it's often fun as hell.

The gameplay is fun. Sometimes it can be a little dumb considering the things it throws at you (really seems like it was NOT meant to be played alone), but the writing around characters and story are garbage. The only person who could have made the comically bad script worse (better?) is Tommy Wiseau,

tl:dr wait for a sale, believe the reviews that say "skip the cutscenes".. You're really not missing out on much that won't be repeated during gameplay.

If you hear the words "space dwarves" and imagine how awesome and ridiculous that would be, you won't be disappointed. This is by far my favorite multiplayer game of all time and I have had it for less than a year. Awesome variety, tons of upgrades, seems like there is always a new goal you can set yourself on to work toward.

Give it a go, if you like dwarves this is sure to be a delight.

I'm all for quality of life improvements. But when a game completely overhauls its entire mechanics to blatantly cater to the multiplayer elements, I tend to get upset. The way this game used to work? It was pretty fun, but now they've rebalanced stuff so that elite players have a harder time rushing strategies while deciding the rest of us who play slow casual games can go kick rocks.

I'm sure the changes are fine and if you weren't spoiled with the previous version it's easy to adapt, but from what I've read this isn't new for the company, and with certain things being taken away from vanilla to be "reworked as part of a DLC package" I feel like I'm getting less and less of the game I poured a hundred hours into. All these changes do is make me want to go play competitors games, "gonna force me to play a different game? Fine, I will".

Still worth loading up for the amazing artwork though.
