Super fun to play, definitely my favorite multiplayer game recently. It is hard to get friends/ new players into it and it sucks that they are stopping updates, but I really loved this game at it's peak and even now

This game is truly something else, I cannot begin to describe how glad I am that I took the chance with it. It is the only game that I got for free and wanted to give the developers money for it, so I did. I put 200 hours into it on Xbox with the game pass, and I loved it so much that I decided to get it for PC. The atmosphere is wondrous, with beautiful areas to explore and absolutely astonishing music. Christopher Larken did phenomenal with the soundtrack, it truly encapsulates you and puts you into the world of Hollow Knight. The boss themes feel epic and powerful, like you are the only one who can stop them.

The whole game is so fleshed out with enemies, bosses, play-styles, and exploration. The enemies all have unique designs, with attacks that don't feel reliant on RNG or other dumb mechanics. The bosses are so much fun to learn and eventually master them, some are so challenging they will take hours to beat, while you are learning them you don't feel like the boss is unfair, but challenging and tricky. You are not confined to using the same charms the whole time, as the game let's you experiment and find out what's fun for you. The story is very interesting and complex, while not being straight-forward. The game doesn't tell you exactly what is going on, but you can still understand the beats and important parts. The game does not force you to understand the lore to enjoy it, it hardly plays a part in the game-play. Exploring the world of Hollow Knight is something else, you can get lost in the world as you figure out what to do next, and the game doesn't punish you for checking every little crevice, with geo deposits and relics.

There were few things that played a negative part in the game, however there were some. I think that new players may find it difficult to get started on their journey, as you don't get a map right away. Some of the backtracking can get confusing if you don't have a map or don't remember what you've explored. Also figuring out what to do next can be a little frustrating. However, those who push through the beginning annoying bits will find that it was worth the effort.

I have some tips for getting through these parts. The first tip is to find and buy the map from Cornifer, who is often close to the entrance of a new area, but sometimes he isn't, there are paper trails that indicate that he is near. Once you get the first map, go talk to Iselda in Dirtmouth and buy a quill and wayward compass, this will add areas you've been to on your map. As for finding what to do next: explore, if you have a map, you can see the places that you have not been to, if you go to them, I can almost guarantee that you find something useful. Stagways are a great way to get around, and are in convenient spots for most areas.

Once you beat the game, there are still more fun things to do. When I beat the game I visited the wiki, and found huge portions of the game that I missed, namely White Palace, the Grimm Troupe, and Godhome. I didn't even know that there were 5 endings until I saw the true ending (no spoilers here). I also hadn't visited many of the places with cool charms and fun bosses. If you beat the game I recommend visiting the wiki and find things to do, as they make the whole experience more enjoyable.

All in all, Team Cherry deserves the highest level of praise for the game they have created, as it was one of the most enjoyable games that many will play. There is still so much more to love about this game that I didn't cover in the review, so if you want to play something outstanding and brilliant, please choose Hollow Knight.

Fun but pay to win, if you have 5 dollars to spare it gets easy.
