This game is really something. I don’t typically enjoy puzzle/exploration games, but the world building and mystery had me hooked from the beginning. Minimalist story telling exceptionally paired with interesting gameplay mechanics. I can’t recommend this title enough.

(Hours not recorded through EGS; purchased again to support devs)

Plays well enough, but takes a significant amount of toying with the settings to make it so. Gameplay seems enjoyable, but it might be worth sitting this one out until some patches can improve the overall performance

I put in 45h, so am I going to claim it’s not a good way to spend your money? Of course not.

That said, the game is not without a core problem. Once you’re tinkered in all of the gameplay systems the whole experience just sort of floats out of your mind.

If there is plot here it’s forgettable. Nothing really “matters”, so nothing really sticks with you as having been consequential. The procedurally generated landscape means nothing has *real* history to it. There is often no reason for the things you’re seeing to exist, short of the fact that they do. Why walk over that hill when you’re going to stumble into the same dozen or two procedurally added “landmarks”.

So, I’ve played through it. NG+ incentivizes you to do it again, but I wonder to myself why I would bother. It’s not likely a title I’ll return to.

Is it worth the money? Sure…but the side of me that craves a memorable experience is severely disappointed.

Fantastic art design, and great primary and secondary game loops.

I'm instantly brought back to my childhood here. Nightdive have really managed to capture the spirit of the original without carrying the bulk of the cruft with it (let alone the pain of trying to get the original to run these days).

Hell of a throw back. Enjoying it quite a bit thus far.

It's not often that a studio is able to take a classic or foundational game in a genre and remake it. Remakes in general tend to suffer from the studio missing the mark, not truly understanding what made the original good, or what improvements have been made to the genre through the years.

Dear god did iD hit it out of the park. This game is an amazing call back to the original DOOM and is possibly the ultimate refinement of the 'mindless shooter' FPS. The gameplay is well complemented by an exceptional score by Mick Gordon.

Out of all of the shooters in 2016, this was the standout hit. I can't recommend it enough.

I can only speak for the Single Player aspect of the game, but based on that I'm sort of mixed on whether or not I can recommend this. The gameplay is decent (I mean, it's pretty standard for a CoD game, and so while a bit "tired" is still enjoyable).

I have a few gripes though, mostly around the writing and lack of attention to detail. The production value is way up, but the game feels like it was written by a High School drop out with a real hardon for the military. The problem is it hits on all the usual points you'd expect but does so in the most heavy handed and flat out boring manner possible. I don't care about the characters, I'm not at all bought into the "fight" or "brotherhood" or any of the other crap the game would hit you with as a driver for what you're doing. Even the mission lay out feels forced and somewhat disjointed (side missions feel like probably would be more important than some of the main story).

There are some memorable moments, but had the game spent more time on development of the plot I might have felt more attached to it.

But I get it, almost everyone these days gets CoD for the multiplayer...which is a shame because at least the last title had a semi-decently written story. This will probably be the last CoD title I'll make the mistake of buying without hints of the quality of the single player campaign. Too many other titles with solid stories, and solid delivery, to waste time or money on this.

Early Access Review
The only real downside to the game joining Steam distributino is now I get so see the horrifying number of hours I have played...

Factorio is one of those games that can very easily go from "Eh, I'll just jump into my save and make a quick change. 15 min tops" to "Oh, my kids are now going off to college? What happened to grade school?"

Exceptionally well done game, especially for being in an early release stage. Clearly this game is a labor of love. I can't recommend it enough.
