One of the most enjoyable co-op shooters I've played in a while, though optimization is still a long way from being good.

If my hours are anything to go by, I may have gone too far in a few places...

An improvement from its predecessor in almost every way. The only thing that doesn't feel as tight and enjoyable are the parkour (and later swimming) sections. They feel rather tacked-on and excessive, compared to the previous game.
Overall, I'd give it 4.5/5 stars. Well worth the purchase I'd say.

*This is a review for the SP portion of the game*
As a newcomer to the series, I was rather excited to play this despite the fact that it is considered to be the black sheep of the series (prior to H5, that is). With that, I decided to keep an open mind and try to at least look over its flaws.

However, after completing the campaign, I was sorely disappointed with what I've experienced.
Here are my major gripes with this particular campaign:
  • Promethian knights, who are basically invulnerable, yet can easily 1-hit you up close or snipe you from afar.
  • The new weapons, serve no particular function, the only reason you use them is because you're out of ammo most of the time.
  • The artstyle they were going with, while the environment looks cool, I can't say the same thing about everything else. They all look drab and dull. I get they were trying make it more realistic but they all just lack "character" as opposed to the previous games.
  • The story, while I do like the concept of expanding the lore of The Forerunners, The main story they've presented here just seems generic. badman want to take over universe . It doesn't help that most of the supporting characters are basically cardboard cutouts and aren't memorable.
  • The co-op lag is way worse. I mean, I remember playing Reach-ODST with the occasional disconnects and input lag. However, every time my buddy (same guy whom I played Reach-ODST with) & I boot up H4 co-op, the lag is 10x worse, to the point where we can't even complete a single level. (In contrast, I was able to complete an average of 3-4 levels without disconnecting when playing Reach-ODST)
Overall, I'd say it's pretty mediocre, which is a shame since the series ended on a high note with H3 (or Reach). Compared to the other titles this one just pales in comparison. With that being said I only recommend getting it with the MCC instead of buying it seperately.

a collection of good games (and Halo 4), each with their fair share of problems. However, one common problem shared across all of them is the constant connection problems in matchmaking/co-op, which are downright annoying.

Surprised no one mentioned 'mesh mods' yet. It really adds a lot of replay value!
