Not every game must be imagining new things, sometimes it's enough to do what's been done well. This game does everything well. Fun runs, no over-exaggerated armory, plays well on the Deck and Desktop.

Such a great story being told in a great format. Mechanics that don't distract from the game, but instead support it.
A surprise game for me!

Very nice pixelart jumpscare horror story game with Anime art cutscenes.
I really enjoy these games, especially if they aren't too long.

I think the story was well written, and the game well executed.
One or two puzzles could have been more straightforward or gotten a hint or two, though.

If I had to say something bad about this game: Roughly halfway through the anime cutscenes just... stop. There just aren't any more, and I am really sad about that. I really liked them.

It's a great game, if you can look past the craptacular addition of fscking Denuo a year after release.
I enjoyed the game, but I enjoy uninstalling it together with that POS piece of software even more.

The feeling when you finally see through an enemy's actions, and it gets downgraded from "OHSHITIAMGOINGTODIE" to "Oh, one of those" is just incredible.

I distinctly remember my most beloved JRPG I played as a kid. It’s Final Fantasy VII, and all the Final Fantasies after that were garbage. Don’t @ me. I was pretty sure nothing could revitalise the feeling of playing that game for the first time all those decades ago.

I was wrong.

This game just checks all the boxes that I loved about FF7 and brings them to a modern game.

The Good

There’s two stories to play through here, Haru’s and Kuroko’s. Haru’s story is noticably longer that Kuroko’s despite them playing out in parallel. The game mechanics feel close to the ones of Final Fantasy VII, while neither copying their breadth nor their depth. This makes the game a bit more approachable in today’s hand-held world of gaming, but also leaves me with a lot of Mater… err.. “Orbs” to be desired.

The Bad

When I was 3 hours into the game the “Completion” box said I was somewhere between 80% and 90% through Haru’s part of the story. That would make the game pretty short with roughly two times 4 hours of gameplay. I was wrong there, it was even shorter. After less than 6 hours I had completed both arcs and all the achievements. That would leave the entire length of the game about as long as other games’ Tutorial section. The developer did say they wanted to release 5 or 6 episodes, though, so I really hope for more here. There’s also not a lot of equipment to get yet, both in terms of weapons and armor as well as magic orbs. I really hope there’ll be a lot more room for materia growth, err, I mean growth of playtime here. Lastly, there’s no grinding of experience. At all. The number of fights you can do is hard limited. every area where you encounter monster has a fixed number of encounters, and when you’ve done them, you can’t get more. That’s a bit sad for me as the part I enjoyed most in FFVII was grinding materia growth.

The Unexpected

The jokes. Oh god the jokes. I love them. They are really spot on for my taste. It really feels like the entire world wants to play a joke on Kuroko.

Amazing storytelling that really pulled me in and made me care for (or hate) the characters! I love it when games can achieve that level of immersion, even more so by the "simple" (not to be confused with "easy") graphics and setting of the game.
The utter lack of direct control of the characters sometimes makes the result surprising, even contradictory to what I expected, but nonetheless believable and intriguing, making me want to know what happens next even though I took a short break from the game.

In short, I loved the experience!

This game has a complex survival simulation that it uses to a great detail. You can easily spend hours on a scenario and still have only half the tech tree unlocked.

The Good:
- Big tech tree to discover
- Colonists talking to each other dynamically, not just story driven
- Lots of entities walking the map at any one time
- Long term scenarios that you can each play for many hours

The Bad:
- The UI needs to make things a lot clearer to the player. At one point it took me hours to realize I already had 5 farm plots while my colonists were starving.

The "this would make the game awesome":
- A scenario editor! Let people make and share their own scenarios!
- Extending from the above, a random map generator.
