If I could give this a mixed review instead of Yes/No I'd preferably do that because this game has a lot of positive and negative things to be talked about. Not so long ago I played and finished Dead Rising for the first time, and funny enough a lot of my issues with that game persist right here leading me to believe Nostalgia has really played a huge role in the games we once remembered with such joy.

Pros

Gameplay: Down to the core of the game is a stealth espionage walking simulator that gets pretty repetitive after the first mission. Some missions require ONLY stealth, and others let you be a bit more trigger happy. There's an emphasis on core mechanics like shadows being incredibly useful to hide in, slow walking being better to stay undetected, tools to help look past doors, night vision goggles that will probably remain on 90% of the time, and bottles and cans that can be tossed about to distract enemies.

Mission Design: Most of these maps are designed with Problem-Solving skills as a requirement. I can't tell you how often I got stuck on a map because I was unsure of what to do next and I just had to keep trying things until something worked. Certain keypads need heat detection goggles to identify the code, other times the player is required to shimmy around windows and tight corridors to get to the next objective. Alerting guards changes the entire scenery and will usually end up with the player dying unless they can hold off.

Dated Hardware: This is something I don't normally talk about, but it's a fact the game is outdated. And yet, sometimes it feels like there's a lot of mechanics, features, and just tiny details that make this game feel more immersive and ahead of it's time than many of the stuff that's released today. I'm sure you've seen the video of the person shooting the water tank, and yes that's a cool feature. But one feature I feel doesn't get talked about enough is the lights and creation of shadows. Room too lit and you need to hide? Just shootout a lightbulb and bam we're in the shadows.

CONS
For all the positives stuff I can praise this game for, the negatives feel like someone took a whole leap back. Forget about taking two steps back, they dribbled the ball and dunked it with this one.

A.I: Enemies follow very simple, predictable patrol patterns that players can easily exploit. The enemies can be easily outwitted, and the "alert" system feels like a thin layer over repetitive behaviors. Rather than offering a truly intelligent challenge, enemies simply react to players in set ways that quickly become monotonous. If you’ve played a few levels, you’ll soon realize there are only a few ways to reliably defeat them, which leads to a lack of variety and engagement.

Unfair gameplay: I know it's a bit silly to complain that the game was hard, but some of the stuff goes beyond hard and becomes pure frustration when the reason you failed a certain mission was something that was way out of control. To give example to this, on one of the later missions you start off outside a Chinese restaurant and are required to stealth your way in and also find the secret entrance. The problem is the A.I never moves so the only way through? Kill the guards. What happens when you do exactly that? Well the entire thing goes on Alert and now you have to hold off in a corner trying to salvage the mission. And this becomes a frequent problem, the second you are spotted you have to salvage the mission or be forced to restart the entire thing.

Outdated Game: While I can praise the many things I enjoyed about the game, I also have to admit a lot of the game itself was just downright hard to enjoy. Walking for instance requires mousewheel for faster/slow and since I played this majority of the time on Steam Deck I was forced to make my own binding for the game to even get it to work properly. Added with the maze like map with zero help, punishing gameplay that will force an entire restart, and lack of player choice in the matter when to go stealth and when to go all out.. This is just a combination for the perfect endurance test more than just kicking back to play a game.

CONCLUSION

If I had to review this based on numbers I'd give it a solid Gameplay:6/10 Story:6/10 It's a great game that I'd recommend people with the patience to try. Unfortunately it's also an incredibly outdated game that becomes a struggle to play and enjoy. As I stated when I started this review, if I could give it a mixed vote I'd do that because I don't outright dislike the game, but I also found it hard to enjoy at times.

Early Access Review
Nuclear Nightmare is a game great on pen and paper, and terribly executed. Now to be clear it's in EA(Early Access) However, that does not remove criticism from the current state of the game and requires a lot of work to be anywhere near close to what I"d recommend.

Instead of talking about the PROS like I normally would in my reviews I'm just going to talk about the issues I've had with this game and why I genuinely cannot recommend it at this time.

The controls are clunky and unintuitive, making simple tasks like navigating the environment or interacting with objects is frustrating. A big example of this is driving the snowmobile and just flying out of control, getting into a helicopter that flips itself for no absolute reason, trying to wiggle into a room to turn off trip mines only for the mine to go off because you looked slightly to the left, aiming any gun, trying to pick up items that are right in front of you, and choosing when you open a door vs when you just kick it for no reason.

Combat is poorly designed, with a lack of responsiveness that makes each encounter feel like a chore rather than a challenge. Some enemies will die by a flare shot, other enemies require you to hold the flamethrower for longer than 8 seconds to do any damage, and some will just no clip for no reason and proceed to kill you.

The environments are repetitive, lacking variety, which quickly makes exploration feel like a tedious grind rather than an exciting adventure. Unlike in Phasmaphobia that has received numerous updates and map changes, there is only 1 map here. 1 large map that takes far too long to explore and offers zero replayability value to these locations. You visited the Satellite? Well it's only objective is to flip switches and that's it. You visited Slaughter House? You just take 5 pictures of the exact same location every time and that's it. Every location is the run of the mill "Do this, do that" with zero variant every time you revisit.

Additionally, the game suffers from frequent bugs and numerous issues which make it hard to enjoy for extended periods. I've had multiple bugs where I just died for no reason, or when we had one person leave and the game refused to end because the person bugged the entire lobby. Or another occasion where I watched a guy noclip through the map because he was able to jiggy the the run/crouch animation.

Overall as many have said. This game has a lot of potential, and the roadmap looks promising. However right now in it's current state, I cannot recommend this AT ALL. However, it is on sale so for 2.79$ if you have a group of friends you'll surely find some enjoyment.

I've come to notice a lot of gaming cults don't enjoy when their favorite piece of nostalgia is criticized. Truthfully, this is a game that deserves both praise and criticism for what it does right and wrong. In my Dead Rising 4 review, I mentioned that I didn't care for Frank—at least, not that particular version of him. I'm happy to say that this iteration of Frank is much better and more grounded in the gritty "reality" the game presents. However, overall, it still falls short in several areas that made it un-enjoyable for me.

Rising PROS

Story: I actually enjoyed the story. This was my first time playing the game, and I got the "S" ending. I'm not sure if that's the canon ending, but it had enough twists and turns to make the conclusion unexpected. The majority of the story is contained within about 12 hours of running from point A to point B, only to return to point A, with occasional cutscenes sprinkled in.

Map: It's pretty much an instant classic. It's The Mall. The crazy thing is, in 2024, the concept sounds even scarier than it did when the game first came out. Imagine an empty mall with storefronts, a food court, a Home Depot, and everything else, all infested with zombies.

Weapons: I actually enjoyed most of the weapons in the game. Funny enough, when you're in a real-life situation, you'd probably just grab whatever item is nearby to defend yourself. So, swinging a potted plant at zombies or rolling a bowling ball into a crowd is both funny and surprisingly enjoyable.

Characters: LIke I mentioned, Frank is actually a pretty likeable character. He's real, and he just wants to get down to the facts. His "witty" one liners are far in between that I actually had a good laugh at a few of them. The Psychopaths are insanely good, a bit out of place tbh like why is there a huge roller coaster inside of a mall? But that just added to the crazy fun this game is.

Dead CONS

This is why I ultimately have to give it a "Don't recommend". I honestly, didn't enjoy most of the game.

Gameplay: Clunky Controls. My god... I think I had to make my own headcanon that Frank busted his kneecaps from jumping out of the plane, which is why he's incredibly slow at the start of the game. But, Jesus, this game is slow. I think the developers' original mindset was for you to constantly replay the game over and over as your character levels up, because trying to do everything in one save file is almost impossible and just straight-up not fun.

Outdated AI: I mean this one just speaks for itself. The A.I is just horrible. I thought trying to save 8 people at the same time was pretty rough in DR2. Imagine just trying to save 1 in this game. Unless you are carrying or holding hands with the A.I just forget about saving them it will save you the headache.

MapMarker: I'm kinda nitpicking with this one because I accept the challenge of having zero map markers or arrow's pointing me where to go. But the arrow in this game points you in the worst direction to your destination. And sometimes it makes you loop back the way you just came from like Google Maps.

Awkward Combat System: This one just goes under the same mindset that you have to replay this game until Frank gets good. A Baseball Bat feels more like a noodle than an actual weapon, instead of getting kills I'm just shoving them to the ground, and often they'll just get up and grab me and I'm forced to spaz my joystick. I actually found that just using the Plank or Knife was the best weapon because they either did 1hitkill or fast enough to never get grabbed.

Otis: Everyone complains about Roman constantly calling you in GTA4. Nah, this dude Otis just will not leave you the ♥♥♥♥ alone. On top with having zero personality, it's just a constant beeping every 3-4 minutes.

Overall, I think there’s something magical about this game, but perhaps I’m a little too old to want to put up with fighting the game itself to find enjoyment. I really didn’t have fun. I initially thought this was a Dead Rising issue, but I’m actually enjoying Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (also my first time playing), so I have to be honest—it's just this game. Perhaps the remaster will fare better with its quality-of-life changes and added features, but with this version, I just don’t think I’ll ever replay it.

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW

We are all obviously aware of these games and how much we enjoyed them in our youths. There is no question in doubt that you should own at least a version of these games in your library from whatever console you choose. However we are now in a dilemma and I will try my best to answer the question. Should I buy this?

TLDR: No, there is minimal to no improvements in this version that requires anyone to spend more than $15 on this version of the game.

What is included in this version

Enhanced Graphics: Improved visuals with higher resolution textures and better lighting effects. These enhanced graphics are minimal to none. They are noticeable in the first 1-4 years but not in the second part of the game. The games are simply made sharper and brought up to a higher resolution

Improved Controls: Updated control schemes for smoother game play, especially on modern consoles. This is true, the controls feel a lot more smoother and solving puzzles is a lot easier. Keyboard/Mouse support and DuelSense Support for owners.

Expanded Content: Additional levels, characters, and challenges that weren't in the original games. DLC that was included in the previous version is now finally on Steam. This DLC only includes character packs nothing of story content.

Quality of Life Features: Streamlined menus, faster loading times, and improved character-switching mechanics. These enhancements are true but not an issue with the previous titles. Load times were already fast, the menu's were not as clunky and the character swapping actually feels better in this version of the game.

New Unlockables: New collectibles and unlockable characters to discover. This is the DLC that previously only existed on consoles now on Steam.

Bug Fixes and Optimizations: Various bugs from the original releases have been addressed, leading to a more stable experience. I played this on Steam Deck and can honestly say it feels a lot more stable and performs better. This is definitely the difinitive way to play on Steam Deck. PC is very minimal to changes in performance. I'm not entirely sure what Bugs were fixed or added so I cannot speak on those.

Lastly for the first time we have Achievements on this game. If you care for those, like I do than this purchase will purely be based on that. Along with the owning both games in 1 installed program makes it easier to manage and start up. However both games are still separate, you will be given a Launcher to pick the game you would wish to play. I find this very disappointing because I was expecting both titles to be running on 1 gamehub/world. Last note. As someone who owns every LEGO game on steam I can confidently tell you they go on sale pretty often. If you do not wish to purchase this version at $40 (because I think that's insane) simply purchase the other versions for $4.99EACH when they go on sale.

"If you are not down to explore a cave for 3 hours to unlock a helmet you will never equip, I just don't think you get this game."

Personally I haven't had any issues so I'd be playing Devil's Advocate to express any feelings regarding the bugs, fps, and the requirement to reinstall the entire game just to get your DLC to run. Once again, I haven't had any personal issues so speaking about them just wouldn't be an honest review.

However, I simply and honestly did not enjoy this DLC. To put it simply "It's just more Elden Ring" If you loved Elden Ring, than this is exactly what you are asking for, more content, more useless items buried in caves that you'll never equip, and more of the exact same map/enemies/bosses that you've already experienced.

As for the difficulty? It was pretty easy to guess what the gimic of this was. Explore the map, get stones, and the "curse" is lifted from your character. I guess this works? But what about the people who have 5NG+ level 400 characters and pretty much steamrolled everything in base game? A nice introduction where your character is basically "Soft Reset" would have been cool to actually give me the need/want to respec and do something other than what I was already doing. This pretty much falls with my issue with ER as a whole. Why bother Respecing when everything I was already doing was working?

So would I recommend this? Honestly, no. I think $40 is asking for too much for the little content I enjoyed, especially when Ds1/2/3 asked for $40 and you got 2 different sets of expansions. But I was actually gifted this dlc, so it's hard for me to even complain about the price.

I genuinely would have given this game a positive review because I love it to death. It's one of my favorite experiences of all time.

Sadly a piece of ♥♥♥♥ ruined my save file with hex items leading me to delete my save file to avoid a ban. Had this game had cloud save I could have easily removed the item by transferring my save to PC and modifying the item. (Played on steam deck)

Without a proper mechanic in place to remove cheaters I'm not going to recommend the game.

I'll be honest when I say this. I am enjoying this game, but much how I critiqued Elden Ring (a game I quite honestly enjoyed but still left a negative review) I have to be honest and integral with my reviews. I cannot recommend this in it's current state.

Gameplay. 7.5/10. Story. 8/10 Highly Recommend once Performance is patched.

A BRIEF CONTEXT OF MISINFORMATION
Okay I'm seeing a lot of people saying this game includes Microtransactions for editing your character and so forth. This is a lie. You can edit your character with in-game money and the only use of the Rift Crystals are for Pay 2 Win essentials such as buying a Pawn that is far higher rank than you, and buying Revive Stones/Gear that once again is far higher rank than you. YOU DO NOT need to buy any of these as if you level up the Pawns scale with you and reduce their price. [ This was to keep people from buying the highest level pawn and boost you] Do I agree with this? Personally no, but you are not forced to buy them and they do nothing but level skip through the game.

Pros

Gameplay/Combat: Easily a win, while I struggled with the mechanics of Elden Ring with huge bosses constantly shifting me through the arena, this game solves that issue by allowing you to just climb on the boss and shank it from atop. There's loads of traps and environments that can break and cause scenic fights. Different play styles and each having abilities you can obtain and upgrade. A party system that allows you to travel with companies that you can hire or make on your own.

World/Exploration: This is a pretty big map, and there's caves and cliffs you have to learn to traverse through to obtain some pretty neat stuff that's hidden. There's also a "caravan' you can pay for that will pretty much let you ride to other towns and other locations that are far off. Big bosses to encounter and most of the world feels pretty lively with other parties just roaming around killing monsters or the occasional Pawn that will walk up to you after you've saved them.

Story: Honestly pretty good so far, it's a lot of talk of dragons and magical nerd stuff but the cutscenes do a really good job at displaying these great moments that keep you intrigued over who's trying to control power and why a spell was put on you and how to regain control of your kingdom. Some Game of Thrones type of stuff but works pretty good and the characters aren't terrible either.

CONS

Okay from this point on I have nothing positive to say about the game, and it's the reason why I have to leave a negative review. This is subject to change depending on one major thing but that's really the only reason this is getting a negative review.

Stability: At first the game ran fine, didn't have any issues hitting 70+fps in the open world and then 55-60 in the main starting town. I figured "Eh, Elden Ring ran worse, but I'm sure everyone is going to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on this game" And so I continued to play not much caring. Than I hit the big city. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this is an abomination. 40FPS??? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 40?? The open world itself still hits the high notes but the main city is just atrocious and even then fighting big mobs also tends to tank the FPS. This is unacceptable.

Graphics: The game has this disgusting motion blur that can't be taken off only lowered which ends up making the game look even more disgusting. Usually I don't bother touching the motion blur because I prefer it to be on, but this game did a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ job with it, and not even being able to turn it off? Cmon I have to choose between ugly and uglier?

Pawns: I honestly like the pawns and how they are happy about winning a fight with you and reach out to give you a high five or cheer on the sideline. They'll from time to time tell you about a chest you missed and pick up items for you. Now, this sounds positive until you've played 2 hours of the game and the Pawn constantly reminds you that you missed a chest you haven't even seen, constantly talking about how they can gather ♥♥♥♥, advising you that the party needs a mage. Shut the ♥♥♥♥ up. It's cute when we win a fight and you give me a little high five or cheer on the sideline. It's not cute when you are constantly pestering me about what I should do or what you can do. Just do it and keep your mouth shut. On top of that, you'll constantly be approached by some random Pawn asking to be hired. NO JUST NO.

Overall I'd recommend this game once it's patched and fixed up. It's fun, really fun. But this is unacceptable.

If I could review this as a movie or a T.V Show I'd easily give it a 8/10 for great performance, story telling, and a strong narrative that is told about a god who is shown the path of redemption and ending the cycle that is God of War. Unfortunately I had to play through the story, and this is a review about a video game. So you'll understand why I don't recommend it.

Pros

Story: Honestly the best part of the game and albeit at times confusing with where it wants to go and how many macguffins are thrown left and right to get the story to progress a certain way or to keep the movement continuing.

Characters: Most do a fantastic job at representing the fantasy world they are from. Even the ones that are a bit unbelievable are still pretty believable to exist in this world.

Graphics/Visuals. Honestly a great looking game. But to be completely honest I remember it looking better when I had first played it on the Ps4, but non the less it's still great to look at.

Music: I normally don't talk about the music or soundtrack of games because i tend to just mute the music entirely. But I left this one on and it was pretty bombastic when it needed to be and I never got tired of hearing the same drum solo over and over again.

Cons
Alrighty, from this point on I have nothing positive to say about the game. So if you are offended that I didn't enjoy your 60$ walking simulator mixed in with repetitive combat you can stop reading now.

Gameplay: Seriously? In 4 words I'll describe what the gameplay is like. [Dodge, Swing, Dodge, Swing.] Now I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here, but I beat and played this game on the hardest mode. There was no enjoyment to be had. Multiple deaths, multiple retry's, and a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nonsense from enemies that would level up after 2-3 swings and become gods themselves.

Exploration: Easily one of the most boring, uninteresting, bland, maps and traversal I have ever done. You thought climbing x amount of towers to reveal map was boring? We'll place 100 different items around for you to pick up so that your son can say some mundane information about something you probably didn't care about. The amount of times I wanted this kid to just stop talking is unfathomable. See a chest? "lets check that out?" Headed towards the mission? "why don't we explore a bit more?" Riding the boat? "We should explore more, or not" Like Jesus kid, just stop talking.

Difficulty: I played on the hardest mode. I do not recommend because it is not hard, it's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, for whatever reason enemies can just one shot you and even in rage mode they'll ragdoll but barely lose any health. I beat the game and most of my fights just were not enjoyable, I did not feel like God of War I felt like "God I wanna kill myself"

Traversal: So thanks to someone out there, and whoever it was. They decided to paint every climbable rock and cliffside with some yellow paint. So thanks now I know what I can and can't climb. But if that wasn't enough, the game has these portal gates that you can use to travel through the map. Okay cool idea in concept. Except there is no fast travel, once you enter the portal you than have to walk until a door appears. I'm not sure if this is bind to load times or something but I had the game on an SSD and boy let me tell you walking through these portals was annoying as it was walking through the main sets of the game. On top of the portals being annoying, when you want to go to another realm guess what? Sit back and watch a cutscene as the world turns around. Needed to go through a gate? Sure watch this animation of Kratos opening this door. Oops you didn't mean to walk through it? K watch the animation AGAIN.

Press X to pay respects: Can't tell you how many times the immersion was broken by a prompt to press X for whatever reason or smash X. Wow fun I get to smash X to open a door. or I have to press X to punch someone in a cutscene when I could have just watched it?

In defense of this game. I'm going to be very honest about something. I do not like these types of games. I'm not a Sonypony and I do not enjoy their story driven narrative games. They are well written and honestly enjoyed the story that was being told. However their games and the amount of time spent looking for X amount of MacGuffin to progress the story is just not fun. So to give credit where credit is due. If you are into these types of games this is a wonderful story that I strongly advice to just watch on Youtube.
Gameplay: 4/10 Story: 8/10
