-Quick Review-
Sanctum 2 is a FPS with Tower Defense mechanics... or is it a Tower Defense with FPS mechanics? I guess it depends on how good you are at placing your turrets. Sanctum 2 was developed by Coffee Stain Studios and released in 2013.

-Detailed breakdown review-
Story: To be honest, I tried to follow the story for the first few comic strips... but I quickly lost interest and forgot what was being said. The simple understanding I had was: "Oh, we're under attack from Organic-robot-looking-bug-creatures! Quick! Shoot them in the red spots!"

I'm a simple kinda guy, I see weak spot, I shoot weak spot. However after the game was done I reviewed the comic strips (which is how the story is told... before you start a level you get a page or two of a comic strip which is following a squad of soldiers... two sisters, a robot, and a shotgun-hacker-man. Sure... yeah "soldiers"... I'll go with that.

Gameplay: The basic gist of Sanctum 2's gameplay is: You build turret/towers, and a maze to control the flow of the robotic onslaught. You're trying to prevent the core from being destroyed... and an added bonus is you're running around with a gun going pew pew. So you don't helplessly watch on as a hoard overwhelms your turret defense.
You normally have a phase where you can build and move turrets and barriers, then you confirm you're finished and ready for the wave to hit where you make with the shooting.

The gameplay is what kept me interested. This is the first game I've played where I build turrets and then take matters into my own hands with a weapon to compensate me for me bad taste in building mazes!
...I kinda wish I could do this in normal tower defense games. (Side note: Also I haven't played Sanctum 1)

There are 8 towers that you can build, and each characters has some load out customization's. I figured out what would work best for me (which was normally the newest turret I unlocked coupled with a good old faithful starter turret) and put my shotgun wherever I had problems with anyone getting through.

I played basically played the whole campaign on my own with Easy. But even on Easy I would misunderstand a new npc attacker who would typically fly over my barriers and I'd get a notification that the core was under attack. I did try out cooperative play with my younger brother for zone/world 3, it seems like the base resources for building turrets and the barricade numbers are split between the two of us... but having a second gun is invaluable because then we could split up between different spawning robots.

Conclusion: Again, the story didn't hold my attention... but I played through the whole campaign in around 6 hours. I am disappointed that there are three DLC packs I need to buy to get more achievements... but I'll add those to my wish list and maybe pick them up someday. For now, this is where my journey with Sanctum 2 ends.

I really liked the game play and I can see myself coming back to this game, or playing it with a few friends and grinding out the game with the difficulty modifiers intact... But as a solo experience campaign on easy was enough for me.
