⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀First Thoughts:
I have always heard good things about this game, for some reason I never gave it a try, the name "Disco Elysium" didn't resonate with me at all - but I sorely mistaken

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Quick Review
The Game is Great, The mysteries in the game area fantastic, The characters are well written and like-able even when they're not - you'll be surprised who you like and who you don't and One of the coolest mechanics towards building your character and a "character sheet" -> Buy It, Don't Sleep On Disco like I did.

I am the type of person that can enjoy slow burns and RPG games that have A LOT of dialogue.

That being said, I am also a completionist when it comes to games and RPGS. It was only when I stopped trying to see everything and started playing as the person I want the character to be (not going to spoil the name cause that's one of the mysteries finding your name) that i began to become enthralled by the world and wanted to learn more.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Mechanics:
The game is a point and click adventure so if you aren't into point and clicks you might not like this, buuut that being said the game story is phenomenal (have not finished at the time of writing but I am captivated and while I'm not playing keep thinking of the mystery as my character would)

The new Directors Cut makes the game much more approachable by voice acting all the dialogue in the game. - The game has dialogue choices and new options that open based on what character you have created or are becoming (typical RPG stuff but very in depth here) Choices in game even if failed can lead to unforeseen outcomes that aren't always bad. If they're bad it isn't detrimental, the game has multiple ways to approach everything

The conversations you have with people and at times yourself are quite interesting if you like to think about the "larger picture" type of conversations.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Overview:
You wake up in a trashed Hotel room, with no recollection of where, who or what you are (yes its ridiculous to an absurd level sometimes but its part of the charm) - can't give much other than that but a good mystery is set up in the first 10 minutes of playing.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Gameplay:
Consists of walking around, talking to people (interrogating), collecting items/clues and gathering information to solve a mystery. You can also grab side quests or investigations to try and solve as you tackle the main story.

There are items you can pick up and interact with, change your characters clothing and dictate what kind of person you want him to become. Choices you make around people have subtle impacts throughout the story but non of that "so and so will remember that" its just stuff you notice while talking if you pick up on it.

I also felt like a real detective with a trench coat, a detective hat I got from finishing a side mission, my notebook in one hand and my flashlight in the other. or you could be the total hobo cop, a bottle in one hand, and a pack of cigarettes in the other.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Music and Sound:
Its good, the sound track is great, there are moments where the background music really ads to what is being read to you on screen.
There are all the sound effects that accompany little things like using items or opening the menu.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Characters:
The backbone of the game, they are the lifer source of this story. each character feels like their own person when talking to them. (not to the level of Baldurs Gate but i still found myself emphasizing with other characters and most of that had to do with the great voice acting for the characters)

I found myself going back to characters I didn't like at first only to have new information surrounding them that shed more light (What is a Cuno?)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Final Score:
Part of me feels glad i slept on this when i did, because I get to play the game with the voice acting that was added on during the directors cut of the game, and to me the voice acting really elevated the characters for me.

The mystery is intriguing and fun to solve as you go around, more mysteries open up to you that you could tackle or ignore. you could even ignore the main mystery, the game truly has many ways to approach it in the way you want as a player.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀9/10 - A Detective style Narrative Point & Click RPG
