I love this game. Let me start by saying don't believe all the negative hype. Sure the game had tons of issues on console but if you are reading this you are on PC and don't have to worry. I'm playing on a 6 year old PC with a newer 1070 card. It works fine for me. Yes there are occasional bugs but they are not game breaking. It's stuff like seeing some trash loot stuck in the floor or car clipping out in the distance.
Story: The story is killer. It's absolutely amazing. I played through the game and did every quest there is. I own the Game on GOG and Steam so my playtime on steam is less right now. I have over 200 hrs on GOG. Don't believe me, then look at the date on my achievements and you'll see I beat it on steam before I beat the prologue on steam. That's because the saves exist between the two services. Every side quest is it's own story but most of them come back on you in the game. Things you do really matter and relationships you build will follow you. It really comes back to you when you complete the end game and see the results you had on people's lives.
The voice acting and animations are spot on. People behave and move realistically. Watching Rogue lean against the wall of an elevator or seeing Johnny fret notes on the guitar let's you see the detail that went into this game.
The game world is huge with amazing detail. There are times I just wanted to sit where I was and take it all in. I've sat at a campfire in the wasteland and listened to the wind, watched the stars, and relaxed to an acoustic guitar being strummed by a brother nearby. I've sat in a neon lit cafe and watched gangers threaten a merchant. I've drank at a bar with metal blasting and watched a group of mercs deal with the aftermath of a botched run. You become part of the world.
The combat is fast and fun. You can decide your weapons, loadout, armor, you name it. Then you can engage how you see fit. If it's too easy then just turn up the difficulty. Too hard, you can turn it down. Want to take a tomahawk to somebody's forehead, go for it. Want to sit on a rooftop and pick off the enemy one at a time with a suppressed rife, then send it. Nobody is going to tell you not to. Maybe you don't like violence, then choke them out, shoot them with tranq darts, stun them with batons, you choose.
Stealth: Want to be a ninja. You can. leave no trace. Sneak around. Never be seen. You can play the game super stealth if you like.
Hacking: It's a thing. I have a build where all I do is hack people's cyberware. I can make them blow themselves up with their own grenades, I can burn out their synapses, I can make them shoot themselves, I can put them to sleep, I can turn off their eyes and ears. And I can even do this through their own security camera systems. That's right. I can sit behind a building somewhere and wipe out an entire enemy stronghold by hacking their security feed and using it to paint targets inside. Play how you want.
Like cars? I have them all. Driving if different for every ride you jack. Don't like how one car drives? Try a new one. You can't customize them yet. But there are tons of variants so you'll find something you like.
If you like the cyberpunk genre then you won't be disappointed. I've played every Shadowrun game there is (except for the xbox FPS one) including the old Genesis game. I've read lots of books in the genre. This brought all the stories to life. I felt like I was in a Gibson novel so many times. If you've never played cyberpunk anything before then don't worry. You'll get into it fast. I will say if you only like rainbows, sunshine, happy endings, and unicorns, then this might not be for you. It's a gritty world with unpleasant themes. It's an "adult" game but has to be to tell the tale. It's also like real life. You don't like seeing some things then you don't go to those places.
In short, this is my favorite game. I've played so many good games but this one is a gem. They are still adding to it and fixing things. I won't tell you it's bug free. I play the alpha of Star Citizen so I know what dealing with bugs is like. But it's more than playable. The bugs I've seen have yet to break the game for me. I think I have one small quest I couldn't finish on one play through but it was minor and I actually ended it. It just don't register as finished. I payed full price for the collectors edition. I don't regret it. I got my money out of it for sure. I know they throw it on sale occasionally on GOG. Pick it up. Unless you just hate FPS, or adventure or games like this, then I don't think you will be upset you bought it. It easily holds it's on with any thing I have played. There is no multiplayer at the time of writing this. But if you liked single player GTA V then I think this is better. But it should be since that game is 10 years old. You can do more in GTA V though. I won't lie. I never played RDR2 so I can't compare that.
I'd love to see them add a 3rd person view for after you've beaten the story, Or a new game + mode for after story completion. I think that would be cool. Also multiplayer would be a great addition so you can go around and do quests or just play in the world with your friends. I love GTA online. I wish they would do something like that.
I love this game. I love what they made. I love that they are making it better and giving us more of what was promised. I followed this game since the original trailer with MaxTac. I own a lot of merch. I appreciate all the work that went in to building this and I got what I wanted from it and more. It's absolutely beautiful and I appreciate every drop of sweat the people put into it.
