XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a turn-based tactical video game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. The game is a "reimagined" remake of the 1994 cult classic strategy game UFO: Enemy Unknown (also known as X-COM: UFO Defense)!

In XCOM:EU we step into the boots of a Commander of XCOM (short for Extraterrestrial Combat Unit), the most elite military and scientific organization in human history, tasked with defending them from the alien attack which happened and started at the spring 2015.

So, when it comes to gameplay, this can be seperated to two parts: "base" and "fight" as a whole.

"Base" part is simple.
As a Commander you have your own XCOM base in which you can reasearch alien technology, develop new things, upgrade your units, expand your base, and choose which country you will save or not, since the game has "panic system" which is, you will leave a country without any help, panic rises.
If it will rise too much, country will quit from a project.
If too many countries will do this, you lose and aliens win.
So the game also has the "choice and consequence" system, of a sort.
So pick and choose carefully!

Now the "fight" part.
Of course to stop aliens you have to kill them, and to do that you send your squad (From 1 to 6 people can be in squad) to various missions across the globe. It can be clearing the LZ of a UFO, hostage rescue, VIP mission, and more, depending from the game.
You have 4 types of classes to choose from, not counting robot units. Sniper, Support, Heavy and Assault Classes, each with different weapons and perks that you can use on battlefield. Also there is sub class which everyone can be, Psionic Class.
There is much bigger variety in aliens.
From simple Sectoids to much tougher and bigger ones, like Sectopods or Mutons.
Every enemy is different, so you will need to use your soldiers carefully. After all, it is a strategic game!
Game uses turn based system, once all your troops will make some sort of a move, then enemy troops move and so on.
Cover system which game uses, could be better.
I am not sure if a big tree has the same value of cover like a wall or tank in real life, but guess that would use too much time in a developing process and now I am just nitpicking.Anyway, cover mechanic is simple. Small cover gives you less of cover than a big one, no matter what that is.
Also one of more..annoying things in a game for me, has to be "hit percentage" system.
If you think you just have to see enemy and shoot him until he dies, you are wrong.
You might slowly understand what I mean...numbers can make few jokes, so you can, and atleast once in a game, you will miss those easy shots were game laughs at your pathetic 90% of chance to hit.
To increase those chances, you can of course get closer or simply flank an enemy.
Using your soldiers perks also helps.
I am not a fan of this, but then again, I am not a strategic guy either, I might just suck and blame RNG for that.
Just saying RNG is there so you should be careful, you never know what you can get with this.
And, as a fun fact, if you are not a hater but a lover of RNG, game has about 4 choices for you before starting a game to make it even more random, such as random damage you deal, random funds you get every month, and other things.
Battlefields itself are rather small/medium sized with often having some close combat parts, like in buildings or on UFO's.

From a perspective of a graphic and sound, game is mediocre at best.
Voice acting is bad, lip-synch is not-existent, there is many overused things in a game, such as alien sounds or soldier quotes.
Graphic is better, but it isn't amazing either.

On the other hand, that is not point in a game.
It has to be a good turn based strategy game, and it sure as hell is.
Even newbie in those games like me had fun as game offers many helps for new players, especially with weaker AI and more resources on lower game diffs, and good tutorial, and if you are one of the veterans, you can always get tougher challenge by simply picking harder diff where AI is better, uses a lot of their perks, and will be a pain in the arse.

There is also a Multiplayer, which is just like a normal game.
Battlefield, your units vs other players units.
But I don't think it is much..alive now.
Rather focus on SP.

So, if you are looking for a good Turn Based game, and you are new in this or a vet that played older XCOM's, this game is for you.
It has good variety of units and enemies, great base system, and some sort of a storyline going along the way.
The only thing I would prefer is no RNG and expanded cover system...no, just me? Pssh, fine.

8/10. This game proves numbers don't matter much tho.
