This game kicks ass. I played this on my PS2 when I was in preschool, and for some reason this game inspired me to shout death threats at everyone inside my preschool bus (thankfully nothing came from this.)

This has nothing to do with the game, its just a strange memory.

TY came out during that golden era of 3D mascot platformers that shot out a bunch of masterpieces and piles of ♥♥♥♥ alike. TY lands cleanly on the first pile. The character designs and writing are really charming and shine among the pile of samey sonic clones, with a unique and interesting cast. The levels are mostly amazing to explore, populated with a bunch of cool things to explore and collect, making most of the completionist requirements fun. The only thing I don't really like is collecting opals, and the invisible boxes. The opals are like Mario coins, except theres 300, and you have to get ALL of them. You usually miss one or two and it can be kind of a nightmare. The invisible boxes are annoying by virtue of being invisible, but they only unlock concept art and not grabbing them won't penalise you in any way, unless you're a completionist loser like me.

Overall, this game is awesome, it still holds up after like 20 years. Buy it. 8/10
