This game is awesome!
TLDR:

pros:
+ solid TD
+ well enough polished
+ challenging, with a very pure trial mode
+ huge amount of fun achievements

cons
- made me go to sleep way too late.

When you start this game, you know there's a big journey ahead. The game in it's current state does require some basic TD-skills. If you're looking for an easier experience, the previous game Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows is more forgiving.
Beyond the story there are 68 trials to complete, which provide puzzles to play maps different rules. For example without any towers, or resource gain, or monsters with too much armor.
Furthermore there are loads of achievements to do that require a special playstyle.
Beyond those I suspect Game in a Bottle has put in an insidious endgame to complete endurance runs. That's bit too crazy for me, for now!

Differences from Chasing Shadows:

- 3 less gemtypes
Makes the game less complex, which is good and bad. The good thing is that you no longer need to be a scientist to craft the perfect gem. The bad thing is that was kind of sexy. There are no more chain-gems, but that component was so much fun!
- enraging is way easier now
That pretty much took all the speed out of CS for me.
- 2 new towers: Pylons and Lanterns
- no different difficulty modes, but a seperate endurance mode.
- no seperate Iron Wizard, instead trial modes of most maps, so it contributes to your main run.

Personally I liked this game sightly more. However they are both excellent!
