It does kinda pain me to say I don't recommend, simply due to what could have been. For the record, I like difficult games. Not souls-like levels, but some odds stacked against me. This game just isn't fair, especially past the midway point in a run. It's pure RNG, no skill, not much to get better at, no reliable strategies, it's all entirely dependent on what the game decides to toss on the floor in front of you.

And there's just... little things. Things that don't effect gameplay in any way but just really really bug me. As a mechanic, I see a car game and expect (and accept) *something* will be off, but so many cards are just so wrong.
Twin Turbo card shows a shotgun intake that goes on a carbed supercharger, transmission cards have random or missing gears, weight transfer card showing a brake rotor and caliper instead of a strut or something, too many to list here.
Is it all nitpicky? Sure, but a car game should anticipate some scrutiny about mishandled car stuff.

Also, AI art. Characters and car models don't seem to be, but random event screens are so blatantly AI it's painful. Hiring a professional artist can be really expensive, I get it, but it's indie already. Pay some college kid a hundred bucks to slam out some personalized event art.

Honestly I don't even know what to say in a review for this. If I were only allowed to have one game for the rest of my life, It'd be Beam. I've gotten it to run on the weakest computer that could install it, I played it off of a USB and a school ThinkPad back in highschool, I have replayed career mode over and over again, spent who knows how much time in freeplay. The hours on my profile are probably just a little bit over half of my actual time, since Beam can be played entirely offline.
The only thing I could possibly wish more for this game is the option to work on the cars. Not just replace parts in a menu, but integrate some Car Mechanic Simulator into it. I can only imagine how massive of an undertaking that would be.

I built my own nice and clean PC, I sorted and organized electrical rats nests behind truck dashboards, I rewired entire harnesses after a Jeep owner got their mitts on them, but building a sub with good wiring is the hardest thing I've tried to do.
The only thing I can say this game lacks is a more restrictive singleplayer mode. I want to have control over only one character that I can try to build up, from whatever job I feel like playing, but unfortunately in singleplayer you can only ever really play as a captain, and always have control over everyone on your team.

My crowning achievement, worthy of sitting atop my resume, is not any ASE ceritifcations, manufacturer specific training, or college schooling, but my fully kitted Datsun 100A that I've rebuilt at least 50 times. Good game for those who know cars and want to play around with one in ways you can't legally do IRL. Also a fair pick for those who don't know, just pull up the guide on the side and start figuring things out.
