"Yakuza Kiwami" is the direct sequel of "Yakuza 0" (I've written a review for that title as well). This game carries on with the events and characters from the last one, a few years apart. Set in the 2005 tokyo, we'll see what happened after Kiryu went to jail (don't worry, that's not a spoiler). Let me tell u, it all went bad for everyone. Just for setting a few examples, this is what went down while he was in prison: The Tojo Clan is in complete chaos, almost at the brink of war. 10 billion Yen has gone missing from the clan. Nishiki has transformed into a cold-blooded Yakuza patriarch of his own family.
Coming back to the main plot or the main idea of this story, that missing money plays a central rol here (kinda like the "Empty Lot" in the prequel). We've had the real state, the whole Yakuza hierarchy, lots of clans and subsidiaryes of the Yakuza chasing us for that "Empty Lot" in the prequel. Now, in the sequel, it's almost the same thing but because of the missing money. Now, a dangerous politician and the Ministry Intelligence Agency of Japan are going to chase us and try to kill us as well.
Now, I'll talk about a few main themes of the story (no major spoilers though). If you dont want to read this, jump to the next paragraph. The sudden fracture in Kiryu and Nishiki relationship it's the emotional core of this title. Haruka's arrival brings so much for the story, the characters and the future itself. She ain't a burden; she's the reason for Kiryu to keep going after all the things he have lost. Yumi's character show us how things could have been very different for Kiryu and the others, If he had not taken the blame for that crime.

We'll feel the same "Old vibe" from the 2000' that I talked about in the "Yakuza 0" review. The combat its the same as the previous game but with a new fight-style available: the "Dragon of Dojima" style. The location, this time, its in "Kamurocho" (tokyo) as well, with a few changes in contrast to the prequel's map. Again, we have lots of places to go and visit: karaoke bars or simple bars, hostess clubs, arcades, discos, casinos, convenience stores, +18 videoclubs, restaurants, etc. We'll find a lot of substories as well, from hilarious ones to touching and kinda emotional ones.

Understanding that "Yakuza Kiwami" is overshadowed by "Yakuza 0", that ain't mean that this is a bad sequel/game, not at all. You must play it and enjoy it as much as u can. In summary, "Yakuza Kiwami" it's a story about the consequences of the choices we've made, about how men are broken down not by violence, but by the people they lose. 7/10.
