Mixed Review

I like the idea of the game.... But.

The only issue I have right now is that you're not incentivized in any way to make a unique blade. I assume they'll implement something eventually to reward you for extra time spent making unique blades but right now there's no reason to do any more than the barebones of what each commission requires. You may as well just spend the bare minimum materials and time to maximise profits over style.

Making unique blades right now just drains your resources for 0 benefit. It's fun to make unique blades every once and a while using excess materials (I haven't played Creative mode, no interest. I'd rather have an incentive to build unique blades in the Campaign) but the effect wears off when you generically complete the comission.

It might be interesting if your blades are visually mentioned more during the Story perhaps. But I think the biggest improvement they could implement would be a extra reward, or a Bladesmith reputation that offers unique commissions, rewards and maybe quests.

Without an incentive to do anything over and above it begins to feel monotonous.

I was hesistant to purchase this based on the reviews. However, it seemed like most were complaints about the KB+M controls and not so much about the actual gameplay. I'm on a Ryzen and have zero performance issues. Game runs great, can't speak on account of Intel or AMD.

This game reminds me of RDR2 and Dragons Dogma. It does lack some features but overall feels decently good. The storytelling at the beginning is badly done. It doens't engage you at all with what's going on around you and fails to make you attached to any of the characters, including the MC.

The game starts to shine after you're able to free-roam and do it at your own pace.

Pros:
- Combat feels good. Good amount of combos to utilize.
- Exploration is relatively rewarding.
- Roaming around opens up new events similar to RDR2, but maybe not that indepth.
- Stash stores items you're too lazy to loot off of fallen enemies.
- Armor & Weapons look good and can be refined to be even better.

Neutral:
+/- The keybinds for the combos are easily forgotten.
+/- (Gamepad) Keybindings are unncessarily complicated.
+/- Menus are unnecessarily complicated. If you're on a Quest it's sometimes hard to find it in the Journal Screen. You're better off just going to the Map and hovering over Quests.
+/- Inventory is unnecessarily complicated. You can stack groups of items, but it doesn't actually save you space. It just compartmentalizes everything. You can buy Bags at merchants that increase your Space by +1. Doing Quests for merchants can grant you bags that increase it +3.

Negative:
- The Puzzles are borderline dumb. If they're not obtuse, they're just wasting your time. Honestly just better off just looking them up online and skipping the BS.
- Can't put bounties or animals on the back of your horse. (Spoiled from RDR2)
- Many things go unexplained, such as animal taming (Cats, Dogs, etc)
- Could use more teleport points to make traversing less of a slog.
- General UI and Inventory management is poop until you get used to it.

Ultimately I think the game is definitely worth it. I'm a cheap bugger and I'd normally play for just under 2 hours and contemplate my decision to refund or not. Ultimately I kept this even though the beginning of the game turned me off a bit with the bad storytelling. Once getting passed that, I'm genuinely enjoying it and I don't enjoy much lately with all the trash games being released.

Overhyped. Feels like a chore more than anything.
Parry system is alright, but making it mandatory in a turn based game isn't my cup of tea.

Neat visuals, I guess. The idea of it being a "fight for survival" and a race against time was lost on me when all of the unnecesary exploration that doesn't tie into the story in any way came along. The campfire dialogue feels forced and boring as well. Game is just a series of linear pathways with small off chutes to get more currency to spend on stuff you ultimately don't care about.

Can't even be swayed by GOTY anymore. 6/10. I might come back later to beat it cus I've already spent the $. I had a feeling I should've refunded right around the 2 hour mark but thought it might get better. Chances are I'll slog through it at some point just to see if I can salvage some enjoyment from it. Only decent character is the main chick. Other characters don't add anything for me.

It's very nostalgic of Project Zomboid.
I don't draw too much comparison personally to 7DTD but definitely Zomboid.

It's basically exactly how you start, and what you'd expect, if you were playing a first/third person style Project Zomboid. All the way from loot to main power and water shutting off to the cities. I play this game with my wife and we're having a blast.

Only con I'd say is the difficulty. Normal is way too easy. Hard is... also easy? Definitely need to tweak the difficulty to make it how you want before you commit to a long run. I would say Iron Man isn't worth it at the moment in case you randomly catch the Virus which sometimes seems to just be completely random even with no Zed contact? Either way, up the difficulty and have fun.

Game is good for the price.

It's similar to State of Decay but instead of being confined to pre-set bases you can build anywhere you want.

Pros:
- Scent & sight mechanic when it comes to Zombies and how they see you
- Vehicles aren't as clunky as you'd think for this type of game
- Jobs and community building is a cool mechanic
- Urgent priorities are a nice addition to normal priorities
- Crafting is decent, not as indepth as I'd like but still sufficient
- Open to the Workshop
- x2 and x4 option is nice to speed up the game
Cons:
- Zoning and base defense is a nuisance to set up. When guiding your Survivors to "Go here" it pauses all of their jobs. The game really needs a Town Bell mechanic when enemies are close by. It's way too much of a nuisance setting up your guys for defense.
- Vehicles consume too much gas and their hitbox glitches out making it awkward to enter and unload.
- Friendly communities are repetitive and the quests are not scaled properly.
- Zoning and jobs could be implemented better. The system is not user friendly at all.
- Molotovs win the entire game. If you make enough molotovs you can pretty much just firebomb anything and everyone and have no problem taking over enemy settlements, even solo.

I may have a decent amount of cons stated but overall the game IS worth playing for the price. It fulfills that itch of waiting for, a maybe never released, State of Decay 3.

If you like Zombie Games grab it and try it out.

The Forest is great. This sequel, honestly, the story is ok and the ending is lame.

The gameplay throughout is okay but it's pretty much pointless to build a base and defend. You just end up exploring and gathering supplies on the way to continuously explore. There's no point staying at your base.

After beating it in Alpha and then beating it again on full release, definitely lacklustre.

Not really excited for the next instalment if they make one.

Story missions are boring. Pacing is mediocre. Ending is a let down.

*Free Weekend Player*

I held off on this because of the flop on release.
Game overall seems to be pretty solid. Definitely considering buying.

Some things that do seem true about other reviews...

- Zombies do seem to spawn behind you even tho you cleared the room, or sometimes even right infront of you.
- Killing Zombies doesn't grant you any benefit. Yes, they're not longer attacking you, but they'll just spawn somewhere else in what seems to be the same quantity.
- Zombies don't drop any type of loot when killed which makes it a little less immersive. It would be neat if, say, Firefighter zombies had a chance of having an Axe on them. Police Zombies maybe had some 9mm or a pistol. Paramedics maybe some bandages or more rarely a medkit?
- Zombies can act oddly sometimes due to latency, or maybe even buggy spawns? Nothing game breaking.

+ In my opinion the audio is fantastic. The eerie sound of screaming, etc, in the background give a great ambient horror.
+ Guns seem decent and ammo is scarce, which I enjoy.
+/- Mixed opinion on Zombie variants. On one hand there's a nice amount of variants, but none that stand out much. Maybe just add a fat or muscular zombie variants that's more difficult to kill. All in all, not bad at all as is.
+ Game requires teamwork which I enjoy. Although often people just give up when you're down to the last couple survivors.
+/- Permadeath is enjoyable, but also irritating if you're doing well on a character and people give up. I've also heard, but not experienced, that if you lose connection in a raid that character will automatically die since you can't reconnect.

I can see this game turning out to be a great game once it's out of EA. Right now, defintely playable and enjoyable.

I recommend giving it a try.

Bought, refunded. Watched some YouTube videos & realised I wasn't exactly playing as it was intended.

Re-bought and dumped 10 hours into the Campaign and 2 hours into the Arena.

Pros:
- Combat is unique and enjoyable
- Companions are a nice touch - although he died. Using Loyalty to Command 3 people was a nice replacement.
- Skills are actually useful, magic and physical.
- Maps are well done. Although I didn't realise a few things such as...
(Compass is actually usable if it's in your inventory, it shows a compass icon in the bottom left of your screen.)
(There's 1 more consumable other than the Blue Bottles that buff your character)
- Arena is a nice touch to throw some time into. It's not fantastic, but it's also a good way to learn how to fight.

Cons:
- I didn't realise the campaign wasn't completely released until I cleared Level 8 and had to google where to go, lol.
- With how dark the levels are it's hard not to just constantly have the Torch out. (Maybe add a Lantern you can hook onto your belt?
- Companions ALWAYS end up killing one another after bumping into each other. So despite being able to have 3 you're almost better off just have 1 to avoid conflict.
- The "Save" game isn't well explained. (You can EXIT whenever you want - outside of combat - and you will always be where you EXITED from. You can die multiple times and you will only go unconscious until your health bar is completely consumed by RED. Glowing Blue Bottles will recover your HP to 100% but there's only 1 per level.
- Darren can die. It would be nice if he only went unconscious. Depending on who you are this is a PRO or a CON.
- The Armour system is slightly weird to get used to. It would be nice if there was a display in your inventory for each part of your body that showed it's defence. Sometimes I'm not sure which piece is better if I have to give up another piece to equip it.

Overall good game and I'd recommend. With how long it's been released, it's definitely unacceptable that a Campaign isn't complete by now but other than that the game is worth playing for the price.
