I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I longed for a remaster. But for all these years, I’ve never been the ruler of my own dreams. I have modded the game of oblivion, a load order beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold! in darkness, a remake sweeps the land. This is the 22nd of April. The year of Akatosh 2025. These are the closing days of the modded Oblivion playthroughs and the final hours of my social life.

Sincerely a masterpiece of a video game. The Rise of the Golden Idol is the perfect sequel. It does exactly everything The Case of the Golden Idol did correctly, but better and with a lovely new art style reminiscent of original game. You don't need to have played the first game to understand what's going on, and likewise having played the previous story does give you some familiarity but does not give the game away at all. If anything, I thought I knew a lot more than I actually did in the beginning and that made each case all the more rewarding to solve.

It was an interesting choice to announce DLC along with the game because it would seem like cutting corners for the sake of making another buck down the line. That being said, the story is far from lacking in content. You can feel the love and attention to detail put into every scene, and by the end of the game it feels like a complete story has been told. The DLC are supposed to be sort of spin off episodes, like the previous game's DLC cases. The first story teased appears to be more related to the main game's story line than the original, following a character introduced early in the game. Rise of the Golden Idol's story is genuinely brilliant, I had a hard time putting the game down, and eagerly await the DLC content.

I don't believe in scores so I'll just say this:
If you enjoyed the original you'll want this game. If you were on the fence about the original, you'll want this one. If you're here for any other reason, it's your lucky day. Buy this game.

Game is not nearly as polished as advertised. Had issues connecting with my friend which is why I bought this game in the first place. I honestly thought it was still early access but it's actually $40 for a $10 game
