Very nostalgic. I used to suck at this game when I played it as a child, but now it does feel much easier than I remember. If you remember being stuck on the Knightfall campaign level don't worry - it is much easier after a couple decades of gaming ;)

It feels a lot like Frostpunk - in fact it feels derivative - but lacks any of the depth and decision making that made Frostpunk good.

They did however come up with some good mechanics like the probe system which I liked a lot.

Wow.

This game explains Depression in a manner I've never seen before. It is an eye opener for anyone who knows friends/family who suffers from Depression and want to try to understand. I hope everyone goes through this in a serious manner and takes something out of it

Possibly one of the best games I've played in a very long time and for good reasons.

Without playing any of the classics I had a reasonably nieve look at it and went in not expecting a lot. The combat mechanics was a new twist strategy games and appealed to my logical thinking over fast reactions. My main criticism was the unpredictablility of the battles as one turn there will be no aliens then the next you would be flanked as if they "knew" you were there. I also hated not being able to position my snipers into high spots without activating 6 squads of aliens. Seriously, my sniper isn't dressed in a neon suit.

Right off the bat the story opens strongly and draws you into the world they have created. The graphics, the additional dialogue from the Chief Engineer and Scientist and permadeath soldiers do a great job in turning something that should be dull and repetitive into exciting and fresh. Too bad the story line dies off and becomes not really aparent because it had some good ideas. There are some bugs which annoyed but while ironman is disabled it wasn't much of an issue as I could just reload the last save.

I enjoyed the design of the X-COM base with the ant farm style look at the base and being able to name each of the soldiers after my friends, especially giving them nicknames when they ranked. The basic customisation sucked (only loadouts with no extra colourings etc) and the skill tree was very basic, requiring no specialisation in anyway. Sure, you're a grenadier by role-play but you can also be a medic if you want.

All in all these were minor issues and I still enjoyed wasting hours of my days playing X-COM. Reccomended to anyone! 9/10
