It seems they have intentionally bricked being able to start and play the game from within steam. You're forced to download and use a third party launcher for the game to not hang at launch. I installed a bunch of older games and this seems to be the case for multiple titles... First the steam mobile app breaking out chat and now this? Valve, why are you making your user experience worse with every update?

Playing this through was on my steam games bucket list, was very entertaining and brought back serious HL nostalgia. A big thank you goes out to the developers, you can see very clearly that this was a passion project... that's 100% what's missing from games today.
