The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky still does work if you run it in DirectX8 mode. You can start the game using the gear icon and use the DirectX8 version. If that doesn't work straight away, use the DirectX8 Configuration Tool, and set your screen resolution first. That's what I had to do to get it working. Same is true for the 2nd, and 3rd game in the series.
