Flat out the best 2D space ship game to this day, and with some of the community mods its even better.

Sadly the old forums are now down so said mods are quite difficult to access now but many are still saved.

I wish this game had gotten more development and press as it has incredible potential mod wise due to how easy it is to mod.

As amazing as the polish and effects of the game are, the main story really falls flat on it's face when compared to any of the prior titles, even the mobile homeworld has a far more fleshed out universe and story which is frankly just sad.

The main antagonist is just a child of a character, continually screaming incessantly and grating to hear and the greats of HW2 are given a off screen death.

Combine this with quite shallow mechanics and, for some reason, a desire to implement microed skills into the game, its obvious that HW3 was not designed for those who were interested in the prior titles, especially HW2.

Maybe in a year when people take the time to mod the game we will have a experience more in line with what Homeworld should be, but as it stands now, play homeworld 2 remastered, or even better, homeworld 2 with good mods, or cataclysm.

I would not say the game is truly a bad game, it is a incredibly weak title though.

Modding will be incredibly fun with this title, but having to lean on that to make the game shine to it's actual potential is sad.

The reviews on this game should be the definition of critical knee jerk, what happened to people actually progressing a bit in the game then actually making a review instead of basing their entire critique off of the first 10 seconds of the game.

Not to mention the amount of malding over high end specs + crashing is frankly hilarious to me given I have yet to crash or get below 60FPS with a 1080ti somehow, a card that is below the minimum requirements.

The only primary issue I have encountered is something the few drowned out comments make light of, that being managing ammo loads on turrets is a chore early on, along with ammo consumption being variable, meaning your rifle can consume anywhere between 1 to 30 rounds per shot which should not be the case.

*Aside from that the co-op outbursts are funny to me given the devs announced that you only get whats in your pack in co-op almost a year ago, yet people are acting like this was never communicated somehow. I guess steam players do not read the desc or announcements of the games they are buying anymore.*

As it stands this title is vastly more polished that a massive number of titles that have already released this year and last year, not to mention one of the few UE5 games that does not require a NASA grade computer to run. It is perfect, not at all, far from it, it needs a lot of work, is is hot garbage like the current reviews make it out to be, nope, or at least it is not if you actually put the time into actually progressing.

Edit : So after 40 hours, the devs have dropped two new patches that have bumped my average FPS on ultra, on a 1080 mind you, from a average of 74 FPS to a average of 102 FPS.

I've not had a game with this many effects maintain such a average for god knows how long, color me impressed.

Will admit though that I have now gotten some crashes, which seem to occur semi frequently when loading into a evac day, this had not occurred in the past, but given the rate at which patches are dropping, which is almost daily, I expect this to be resolved quite swiftly.

The decal editor is a power no mere mortal should have the power of.

All shall tremble at the might of The Home Depot gun tank.

Game wise, its a well tuned, bug free experience with absurdly tight controls and impressive customization, fromsoft killed it. Its a return to form that highlights everything fromsoft has built towards and learned.

As the fires burned, fear none more than the raven.

Edit: After completing the true ending with NG++, this game goes unreasonably hard, I seldom replay games and I just could not stop this time and by god IT WAS WORTH IT IN EVERY WAY.

Some of the best cash I've spent on a game in a loooooong time.

As it stands right now I cannot in good faith recommend this game.

You can already see from the primary player trends that marauders just really never caught on after it started modifying the title to better align with other shooters such as tarkov. To nobody's surprise, catering to the mega hardcore crowd with a majority of changes drove a way a majority of the playerbase, and left only those who are now complaining about not being able to find people to kill (I know, crazy isn't it).

The golden goose of Marauders should have been it's ship combat, but, once again, that golden goose was tainted by hardcore players who only saw this as a tarkov lite, complaining that the ship combat ahs no place in a shooter. Thus, ship combat is largely now just a tacked on second fiddle to the FPS combat, you seldom actually kill anyone in ship combat, with almost every single weapon on ships handling like hot garbage, with the only usable gun, the flak cannon being nerfed into the floor. Not to mention the entire issue of boarding pods which they tried to bandaid fix but in the end just made fighting in ships worse. Thats right folks, even if you win a ship to ship battle, your enemy can always just run to the pods and board you, dont even try to shoot down the boarding pods because they are way too maneuverable and fast, not to mention tiny, just hop off that bridge control once you see your enemy pod, because they will be coming inside, even though you beat them in space combat.

The upcoming "Raiders" mode is just another baindaid to a issue that has existed since the start of the game and I see it doing functionally nothing to actually resolve the original main PVP issues. No you didn't fix any matchmaking issues or solve issues pertaining to your matchmaker, you realized that after 6 months of having sub 600 players consistently that its not viable to keep doing this, but instead of actually solving the issue, you chose to tiptoe around it and try to give out a mode that satisfies both parties, but fails to do so for both.

Roll it all back, make space combat actually worthwhile, and stop catering to the hardcore tarkov players whom have already left your game and actually make updates that make people want to play instead of putting out the same changes and going "why cant we surpass 1000 players consistently".

Marauders is squandered potential, the content is fantastic, the development leads are not.

A interesting concept marred by not really knowing what it wants to be.

The game is a horrifying hybrid of Squad's healing and logistics design with the high speed game play of battlefield, two things that really just do not mix, toss in a heavily questionable spawn system and ARs that make every other weapon in the game obsolete and you have a overall just meh experience.

This does not even take into the account the movement abuse that this game allows, from pre-nerf rainbow 6 siege style wiggle peaking to dolphin dive prone spammers, gunfights commonly devolve into who can macro harder to dodge bullets. Or how the in game ban ticker seems to be consistently running faster than the actual kill feed, with people being chatbanned ridiculously fast, to the point where a good chunk of the matches I play in become silent after the half way mark, with most people being temp chatbanned for random reasons due to the rather draconian automod the devs chose to install.

Until the game can figure out it's identity crisis and other fully embrace the BF style of game play or squad's style of game play, along with resolving it's inherent player mobility issues I cannot really recommend it at this time.

Enough is enough gaijin's obscene russian bias and greedy wants come to a end today.

Until gaijin fully improves the economy into a shape that is not by design predatory and destructive to the community the review destruction will continue.

Edit on 12/27/23 - yep gaijin is even more entrenched in their rusksi padding ways, review still stands, its still hot garbage.

As it stands right now the game is critically lacking in any sort of story or real long term content. Once you have hit level 30 with one character you've pretty much seen it all for all 4 of them if not earlier, combine that with overall meh reward systems and limited customization in terms of actual builds it gets boring quite quickly.

Which is a shame as the devs know how to make a 40k themed game, the art and gameplay itself is fantastic, but it just feels hollow at the end of the day.

This does not mention all the bugs that are present and unaddressed while the cosmetic store operates flawlessly to absolutely no-one's surpise.

Come back in like a year or two, it will probably be better and more rewarding to play then.

How to kill your game in one fell swoop then, watch as you loose even more of your player base by gloating about how good the update is and your community is wrong.

No EAC does not solve a majority of the issues it is meant to, no EAC is not a good AC, it's so easily bypassed today it's comical.

All this does is shaft the legitimate community of fantastic creators that are the lifeblood of VRCHAT, but given the recent events, I don't think they mattered to the dev team to begin with.

What a shame.

Squandered potential, the game.

Due to Bossa's desire to tie the game's core functions into the now tainted Spatial OS which seems to kill every game it touches doomed this product from the start.

Unlike other games which may live on after the playerbase dwindles, WA and other Spatial OS games live or die by their connection to this failure of a product.

Combine this with a insistence to not create PVE content til the death throws of the game and failure to create a rewarding single player experience, WA died as silently as it came in.

Rather than leaving with applause, it died with a wimper.

A shame, as it's ship designer and gameplay remains largely unique.
