I don't know if there is a franchise more emotionally manipulative than the Emily Is Away series. They lure you in feeling good with nostalgia, memes, and a crazy good attention to detail only to make you feel like utter dirt by the end.

It happens every single damn time.

There is a lot to enjoy about ICEY. It is a fantastic looking game, the soundtrack is great, there's cool 4th wall breaking and interesting story going on.

But I cannot fathom in my wildest dreams why this twitchy action game that requires quick reflexes and sometimes frame perfect commands has intentional input lag. It's actually unbelievable. Really it's tolerable, albeit annoying, for 98% of the game, but when you get to the final boss and ICEY just occasionally does NOTHING while you're smashing the attack buttons, it becomes infuriating.

Don't put input lag into your action games. Ever.

When it was good it was pretty good.

When it was bad it was damn near unbearable.

And underwater metroidvania is brilliant and beautiful, but still controls like every terrible underwater level in every game you've ever played, which, when you need precision movement, is absolutely trash.

I have never seen a character in a game as brutalized as Lara Croft in this.

Like hot damn, if you're a masochist this is the game for you.

Don't learn anything about this game. Don't read any summaries, don't watch any videos., don't read any reviews. In fact, stop reading this review.

Get this game and go in blinder than the lovechild of Matt Murdock and Ray Charles

People will complain about the price, lack of content, lack of replayability, and stuff like that.

Those people haven't heard the credits theme.

10/10 for that alone.
