Easily one of the best things to happen to video game narrative in years. The game is short, anything but sweet, and brutal. It veers away from current triple A games industry practice of glorifying war in shooters, and instead uses the genre to further the story to explore themes such as war exhaustion, devastation and the impact on civilians that we do not commonly see. It has moral ambiguity as one of its core concepts, and one which I applaud with great enthusiasm; decisions actually have an emotional impact and there is no wrong decision. In one section it took me a long time where I just sat there, simply to decide what the right decision to make was (to me at least)- I had the luxury of time, whereas in war you do not always have that luxury. The characters are believable and have strong development, even with unseen characters. The collectables also further the story, allowing you to see another side to things and give you an incentive to find them besides just being another statistic for the perfectionist. The gameplay is decent, I never felt overpowered or had the option to rush into things carelessly to progress. Likewise, the difficulty never spiked unrealistically at any point- it remained a reasonable challenge throughout. It isn't revolutionary in that regard, but nor was that the intended purpose. In conclusion, if you are ready for an emotional rollercoaster, looking for one of the most satisfying endings in a video game that is heavily story focused and DO NOT accidentally spoil sections of the story to yourself then this will be one of the most gratifying (and emotionally draining) experiences you can immerse yourself into in gaming.
