Edit: Sony has announced they plan to not go forward with the forced PSN account thing, but my review will stay negative(for now). Partly because I don't believe Sony learned a damn thing, and partly because the way ArrowHead handled this the last week has been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful.

Telling people to just 'use a fake phone lol' or gaslighting people to believe it isnt a big deal, or to literally break the EULA by faking what country your from (which results in Sony banning you instantly if you try) and trying to pass 100% of the blame to Sony is garbage, they knew this would be a problem for three months and didn't say ANYTHING to save face.

So the negative review stays. At least for a few weeks / months assuming Sony and AH don't have any more dumbass ideas, then itll go back to positive.

First off, ♥♥♥♥ Sony for forcing you to link your account to a PSN account or else you get banned, it isnt a big deal for the 69 (out of 180~) countries who have access to psn, but if you live in a county where Sony doesn't allow you to make an account you're going to be banned without anything you can do.

It's a really good fun game with friends, but Arrowhead has done nothing but introduce new bugs for months, its nearly 3 months in and we still have match making bugs that break your game until you restart it. It hurts to put a negative review because this game is honestly really amazing, but I fear the devs are just..kinda out of touch.

Mostly this review is just to say ♥♥♥♥ Sony though.

6/18/20 This game is currently broken for every player who pays attention and isn't a EA fanboy.

The main cause of this happens to be the forced install origin client that comes bundled with the game, which by the way isnt mentioned..anywhere?, this origin client has a hidden and forced overlay always on. The problem is origin overlay is known for being broken, super broken. Anyone who tells you 'it says right on the page!' it didn't say that on launch day, and even today it doesn't properly tell you, it tells you '3rd party systems maybe be required'

Randomly you will just lose 20-40 fps, for no reason other then this overlay running in the background, there is no way to disable it, there is no way to avoid it, it just is here. Always.

If they fix it i'll gladly change my review, but it's EA and the way they have been going on about it online shows they have no interest in doing so, going so far as to blame the consumer for their own terrible program and code.

So, the game is pretty good to start off, I enjoy the crafting, the world is nice, the town is really cute and well put together.

BUT I can't really recommend anyone buy it in it's current state. I'd love for the devs to actually improve on the gripes and make this a great game, but this dev has a history of not doing that. Maybe they'll prove me wrong

The store page paints the wrong kind of picture for what the game truly is "run your own farm!" This game does have farming, but it's so bare bones and so sloppy it may as well not exist.

"Unforgettable community!" This game has some of the MOST forgettable people out of all of these harvest-moon style games. The dialog isn't written for each of them, a lot of them just share lines. Examples would be if you give a gift to say, the farmer who lives next door, they might exclaim "Oh wow!..I never thought you'd give this to me", and the doctor in town will have the literal same line for giving them the same gift. But now imagine that for everything.

Speaking of broken dialog, this game has a lot of it, and I mean A L O T. Some characters have "dreams" the nurse in town wants to build and run her own clinic, so naturally as you progress down her romance tree you build her her own clinic. But here's the thing, each time you talk to her, she will still mention how "I really wish I had my own clinic to run one day" as shes standing in her clinic.

I could go on with how awful and super alpha the characters are but i'll move on.

The game play loop is fine, the crafting speed of bars and plates might be a tad slow, I don't really enjoy having to have 8+ high level forges just to keep a steady amount of carbon iron bars being ready.

The combat is, like most things, still in very early beta, or late alpha. Sloppy, buggy, dull. You can stun lock most enemies by just either mashing attack, or by delaying your attacks so you always get the first swing of the combo over and over.

Probably the worst offender of the "This game is still in alpha isn't it" has to be the sound design. HOLY MOTHER OF GAIA the sound design is truly awful. There's voice-acting but it's sporadic and seemingly random what is voice and isn't, the quality of the voice sounds like it was recorder over skype most of the time, some characters are so loud you turn your volume down, and others whisper at you one line, and then scream at you the next, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess.

They also only have one sound for most actions, wood chopping only has one sound byte, as does mining, running, fishing, so on and so forth. This may sound petty but it isn't even games like Stardew Valley have at least 5 or 6 different random cutting/mining sounds, and that was made by one guy, this is a full team of people and they couldn't be bothered.

Combat is back once again but this time it's the sound, most enemies don't have sound effects, most weapons don't have sound effects on the swings, hitting people also often doesn't produce sound, bosses don't have any kind of sound either.

The music for the open world however is quite good, same with the event music and some of the cutscene music. The combat music however is maybe 15 seconds of music looped. There's also no special music for bosses, or any music for bosses, You often fight them in dead silence.

TLDR: The game over all feels like it's still in a late alpha/early beta stage and was pumped out after the word about the way the dev's were treating their voice actors like ♥♥♥♥ by not paying them and making them work long hours for free, but they wanted the game to be "done" so they can start their next project. Just as they did with planet explorers.

Games quite good, even if the title is baiting souls players, until the last 3 bosses, Then it just..well you can tell the dev ran out of ideas, and just put some really cheap RNG fest bosses in here.

The idea and art are really cool, and we've seen this stuff before in stuff like Triad wars, the downside? It's spam as all ♥♥♥♥, and it gets old, very quickly.

High level people will utterly destroy you with one key as they get massive perk bonuses, and franky 20 bucks for this is kind of a rip off, wait til it's on sale, or goes f2p in a few months.
