Neat, small and decently executed idea. If playing online games with online friends was a big part of your life at one point or another you should give this one a go.

Total of 300+ hours of playtime since 2023 testing

Despite my many problems with this version of the game it is impossible to deny that this is simply the best skateboarding game on the market right now. The animations are flawless, if you're into somewhat realistic, techy lines there is no other game that feels as good as this. If you're on of those speed glitchers then there's plenty of that here too but I have no interest in that stuff. However, I have to mention that about 95% of my playtime has been spent just free-skating around the city and hitting specific spots over and over while completely ignoring the objectives and missions the game offers.

The art-style is fine, the clothing options are mostly good too (except for the fortnitey costumes). My biggest gripe with this game is the weird wAcKy writing. Why do we need an in-world explanation for why bails don't hurt? A sci-fi device that makes you invincible made by a local start up? are you for real?

The biggest sin this game commits is the complete lack of skateboarding culture inclusion. Shingo is a completely new character (voiced by Sean Malto now) so i don't understand the need to reuse that name. The first three games were FULL of real skaters and pure love for the scene and the skate videos of that era (remember those sick intro videos with all the pros?). Getting sponsored by real brands, filming for videos and shooting cover photos. This game goes out of its way to completely ignore the real world skating scene.

So yeah, the moment to moment gameplay is amazing and it feels so incredibly smooth. The fantasy of becoming a pro-skater however, is completely gone. There is no filming for videos, shooting cover photos, playing SKATE with the pros. Instead we have a collection of fairly basic, tony hawk like challenges that don't hold my attention at all.

This game really scratches that STALKER itch. I'm looking forward to see how it develops over time.
