An ancient classic. Technically abandonware, but only because the game is finished.
The single most competent ice fishing simulator there is bar none. Doesn't attempt to do anything else, it just does what it does well.
A clean UI, easy new player experience, considerable degree of replayability, built-in multiplayer and VR support... there's nothing to criticize about this game.

Except maybe the wacky choice of fish... why are there freshwater fish in saltwater and saltwater fish in freshwater devs what...

A fitting sequel to a flash game legend.
Updated sounds, graphics, and animations, with infinitely more replayability than the original game. All the features of a modern game are present, including a daily challenge game, hours of side content, and even built-in multiplayer.
Word on the street is that the devs are working on some of the other Sky9 projects first and then will get back to SFH2 when they have the budget for it. When they do, i'll lap it up.

I got this game for three dollars.
I wouldn't have bought it for any more.
That being said, for three dollars- it's great!

Edit: I've played freeplay more since writing this review. You can ride the ziplines. 10/10.

Early Access Review
I want to enjoy this game so much, and I really want it to succeed. I am a veteran player of UFS1 and purchased the sequel as soon as I heard of its existence. Unfortunately, aside from the graphics, UFS2 is a direct downgrade of its predecessor. Here's a list of missing or unclear features:
The UI, especially the net and buy menus.
Boats
Fly Fishing
Ice Fishing
Pannable underwater camera
The reel drag system
Fish "tiredness"
Frames per second
These are just features that I personally noticed were missing or severely degraded from the first game.
Like I said, I want this game to succeed so much, and I know development to include these features will cost a lot of money and time. At the moment, however, you'd be much better off buying UFS1 and its expansions.

They really knew how to make 'em in the old days.

This absolutely ancient game is complex, challenging, and heavily replayable, even without using mods- and this game, despite its age, has one of the simplest, most intuitive mod manger system of any game I have every played.
The only hard part is figuring out the initial learning curve. Without a friend it will take about four hours to figure out the basics of the game, since there isn't a tutorial. Take the time to get over that and the game will be a great addition to your library.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this game will eat your life. It has an unbelievably long grind (we're talking tens of thousands of hours if you don't want to pay) but is fun at basically any level of play. Although described as broken on the internet, in my experience this game has been reliable and realistic to a fault. Probably most importantly though, it is very addictive. This game will draw you in. Microtransactions in this game are really more of megatransactions since everything worth buying is fifteen dollars or up. But in the end, the game is still really fun, and definitely worth playing even if you don't have the time or money to progress.

Just... don't play this game if you want to get to the modern content. Play the game for fun and you'll get there eventually. If you want the modern content and play the game just to get there, YOU WILL BURN OUT. Don't do that.
