What we (obviously) want:
- A decent CC0 game engine

What we got:
- Woke activism and censorship

Advice:
- Use ReDot, a branch that actually focuses on being a decent CC0 engine

Can't login.

Is the game good? I'll never know.

Great game.
Almost ruined by Sony being stupid, but historical amount of negative reviews changed things for the better.

The threat of Sony's imbecility has been pushed off... for now.

An absolute tragedy.
The game was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. HOWEVER, after coming back from an extended break, the game will no longer launch under any settings thanks to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UBISOFT connect screen.
I can't even sign in, since I don't have an account. The game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gone. I can't even launch it. I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pissed.

By far the best game I've played in years.

Notes:
- This game can be incredibly frustrating.
- Aiming down the sights with a sniper scope always produces a scope glare and there are (so far) no attachments that reduce or remove this flare, so your location is given away very easily if the enemy is facing you.
- Most players are hostile and typically go around in squads, so you are often outnumbered by enemies.

Long story short, every time you go down to the surface you risk losing everything you have on you. If you have a nice weapon or good loot from your explorations then get killed by some random creature or player, everything is lost and the time you spent down there is wasted unless you had some rare mission that only requires going somewhere or hunting something.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tips:
- This game has a lot of good places to set up traps and execute strategies.

The map is the same every time while the loot and creatures change location, so you can study certain terrains or buildings and prepare escape routes or memorize good hiding locations. With a well placed audio decoy grenade you can lure enemies into your line of sight or scare them away from certain areas for a brief while. You can even make use of the planet's creatures to keep tabs on where the enemy is and distract them long enough for you to line up a kill-shot. You can absolutely make use of the environment to improve your odds of winning a difficult fight.

- Attachments and consumables

Attachments can often make the difference you need. Stop by the general shop in the main lobby and pick up a few cheap improvements. A flashlight attachment can keep you moving the right direction when you're running from someone or something through a dark storm (press 'L' to toggle it on). Medkits or stims are absolutely necessary. Smoke or audio decoy grenades are extremely useful as well.

- Confident battles

Only fight when you are confident you can win. This is a winner-takes-all game and you lose everything if you get taken down.

- Stealthy skills and patience

Running makes a lot of noise. Walk everywhere so you hear your enemy before they hear you. Crouch walk into a good position when someone is near you. A good surprise can mean all the difference. It is also very easy to run past someone who isn't moving. If you hold very still in a good spot, there is a good chance whoever is near you won't notice and will run right past. Make sure you're not holding a long-barrel weapon when hiding, as it will stick out and make you more noticeable.

- Feign escape and rarely chase

Some people are bloodthirsty while others just want to survive. If you turn tail and book it out of there, I recommend stopping nearby and waiting around a corner for them to follow you. If they do, mow them down. If they don't, be cautious and find a way out. Chasing after the enemy puts you at a disadvantage, so be careful.

- Weapon choice

Different weapons are best for different situations. If you're going for a full loadout, I recommend taking a bolt-action sniper rifle and an smg. The idea is to have a long-range and a close-range. The sniper is ideal for picking off people at a distance. If you see someone get hurt by a creature or a fall, the sniper might be able to take them out in one body shot. If someone thinks you only have a sniper and rushes your position, wait until they get real close and mow them down with the smg.

If you're not confident in surviving and end up going in with a minimal loadout, I recommend taking a pistol with good attachments. They are cheap, accurate and can still defend you against smaller creatures. There is also a psychological benefit to taking only one weak weapon with you, it will improve your trigger discipline due to the lower chance of success in combat. Your chances of surviving seriously improve if you manage to avoid combat all-together. It's profile is also much smaller than the other weapons, which makes it a great weapon to have while you are hiding.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary:
There are a ton of frustrating points to the game, but it gives you a good place to apply strategy and planning. If you don't have the patience to put together a strategy, you will likely hate the game.

This game genuinely sucks and for a lot of reasons.

Firstly, while the game is named "Population ONE", it does not, has never and never will support a single-player mode under the lame excuse of it being a "social experience".

Secondly, you have no real chance to win. More than 90% of the games you play will pit you against multiple squads filled with nothing but max level players. On top of that, the game usually only gives you one of the two teammates you're supposed to have and there is absolutely no skill based match making.

Thirdly, the game is a glitchy POS that has borderline no real development happening. The PC version of the game is still stuck with several bugs that have been there since launch day (two years ago at this point). You can easily get shot through walls, you can easily get stuck in a broken part of the map, you can easily get stuck in a game with no audio- the list goes on.

At the end of the day, BigBox VR is an absolute joke of a developer. This game was a waste of money that won't make you happy. Do yourself a massive favor and steer clear of this game.

Early Access Review
This game is fun, but the graphics are poor and it is still full of crippling bugs. The halloween event happened today, but it crashes every time anyone picks up a scope, so I havent been able to enjoy a single match for over half an hour.

I do love this game, enough that I am ranked in the top 10, but thats mostly because there are very few players. I hope this game can get its junk together. It has been way too long to still have so many bugs.

The game was fun mostly because of the storyline. It was visually interesting and catches your attention pretty easily. However, it doesn't tell you the controls or what specific things look like. With enough time you can sit down and figure everything out, but you probably won't get most things right the first try.

My only main complaint is that it has no replay value. You finish the story and that's it. It took me 5 hours to finish the game but I can't see myself touching it again.
