Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers

What a wonderful game. I have to be honest, I didn't think this game was worth $29.99 USD (it took me about 3.5 hours to finish which is what I had read was about the average time to finish). I thought people were overreacting to what probably was a better version of Lucky's Tales or Alone Together. Those are good games, but they are not great games. This is a great game. If you look at the Steam store page video or the screen shots, you'll see the parts but not the whole. The whole is a wonderful, immersive storybook experience that only VR can bring to life.

The funny thing is that I really wasn't enraptured with this game during the first hour or so. I thought, well this is just like Alone Together. It's really nothing special. In truth, it is very similar to Alone Together. In both games you're pushing / pulling devices / solving puzzles to move your cartoony hero forward. But that's really where the similarity both begins and ends.

Moss has a story to tell ... even more than that, an experience to feel. It starts out very simple. It's almost easy to be dismissive of it as just another unlikely hero tasked with saving the world. It actually reminded me of Frodo from Lord of the RIngs. But if you pay attention to all the little details you'll start growing attached to Quill. You're the Reader and your task is simply to protect Quill. Soon you'll be giving high fives and feeling ultimate joy to get your friend out of harm's way and into safety. The boss fight wasn't partiularly difficult. Truth be told, I believe I was fighting the controls more than the enemy. But it didn't matter. I felt that joy that only a good story can bring to gaming. We did it.

Rate 8/10.
