Let's hope this "questionable" patch gets the correct attention by Focus. I'm hoping this is just them dipping their toes into the water and realizing It's not the way. Love me God-Emprah, abhor the xeno, 'ate the inquisiton.

I eat my words from my last review. After the initial Escalation of Freedom patch became the nail in the coffin for me, I packed up. I thought this game was at its end until AH finally would wake up. It looks like they've legitimately listened to community feedback. I'm so relieved to see we're back on the correct path for this game again, one that can be played years down the line, still gaining new players from different generations to come and not have a worry with balance. I'm genuinely impressed with AH, they've done a great job. Keep it up guys.

If you're curious to my initial negative review.

"I had to come back and add some things to my 1am original comment. I'm salty but from a point of love. I've played since minute 1 of this games release, I was apart of the first 11k Helldivers before it blew up. It's a game with so much potential that has just been tossed around due to some unfortunate circumstances and bad calls. The community is great and they just want to be listened to, not heard.

Devs are tone-deaf to what the community is asking for. Instead of buffs to weapons that do not see the light, such as most ARs, they instead nerf weapons that are in a good spot. Months of dry spells for little content, there are some great things this game can do as long as Arrowhead gets right on track. The new "Super Helldive" difficulty isn't really worth it for 7 Super Samples. I'm rank 139 in this game, I enjoy what it offers but the current state of "Escalation of Freedom" leaves so much to be desired. It brings so much good to the game, proper tweaks and many many many needed fixes. Yet it's bittersweet because it brings a lot of unwanted things, especially nerfs. I find it strange flame weapons are nerfed right before a flame themed warbond, you'd think they'd want to promote a full flame, fun-filled kit in its entirety.

Arrowhead makes claims that they nerf weapons that are being used "too much" or becoming a "meta" weapon. That's perfectly understandable, it's a PVE shooter fun game, the issue here is that you're nerfing the only weapons that fill the role. There are no viable alternatives to many of the weapons just because of the distinct play-styles they all fill on their own. Once the Slugger was originally nerfed months ago, no other shotguns felt like they performed how the Slugger did. I would love Assault Rifles to get love, the Tenderizer especially. I still find myself going for SMGs over ARs just because of the ease of use, ammo economy, and sustainability they bring to the table, yet I want that with Assault Rifles. The Liberator/Explosive have felt the best since day 1. The Adjudicator feels the absolute best in the category of paid DLC weapons, I just want that with the rest of them. Give me the hard hitting, mid capacity, slightly stronger but less mobile than an SMG archetype.

I genuinely love this game and want it to do good but I thought we were past the unnecessary nerfs and blindsided decision making calls? I've not used the Commando but I'm glad they have left it alone for now due to community backlash. As someone who doesn't use any of these weapons that were affected with the recent changes, from the outside looking in I don't understand why things were changed. The Breaker Incendiary was nerfed due to it being used too highly in Terminid missions but what is the (alternative weapon) to something that has multiple pellets and can spit fire with each? It's a great clearing weapon and even better at clearing the over-tuned fliers spawning every 30 seconds from the bounding box. The solution shouldn't be to nerf the things being used "too much", you're creating an artificial meta in an PVE game, instead how about we add alternative weapons so Helldivers can spread democracy with freedom of choice and not be tied to one item that'll get nerfed or massively changed in the next big update.

Please turn this games direction toward something good and sustainable."

20 years is all it took to finally get a revival of this series. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is everything my nostalgia had hoped for with bonuses. It was long worth the wait.
I've been emulating JSRF for years just to feel like a kid again playing JSR for the very first time and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk hits the nail on the head for me. Even now so with these minigames and collectible challenges they've added as well as not having to hunt down graffiti cans because I've run out. The game runs and handles amazingly well. I'd like a patch to add some higher resolution textures where the game starts to pixel up (eyes and other circles mainly) but honestly It's not a high priority. With that being said the cell shaded graphics still live up to the modern standard in my opinion My gripes are far and few between truthfully. I've enjoyed what I've played of the game and I hope to sink many more hours into it.

The Pros:
  • Solid music (could've have asked for a better team of skilled individuals overall)
  • BOOSTER PACKS
  • Graffiti doesn't need to be picked up anymore
  • Fun tagging minigame (you can pick and choose what tags to do via patterns)
  • Hidden explorable areas within the infrastructure of the map
  • Different equipment to help with tomfoolery
  • Spamable tricks while grinding the city streets
  • New combat against the police is enjoyable enough for what it is
  • No SEGA

The Cons:
  • No option to mute specific songs from the mix-tapes. The music is amazing but sometimes getting your hair and nails done comes on way too much for my musical moods.
  • As stated in the pro's the combat is good for what it is but I wish it were more expanded on, you just kinda flail around until they retreat or you can sometimes get a "finisher" and spray them down.

Opinions:
  • I understand why there's no multiplayer but a coop would've been cool to have a buddy come and grind along with you in New Amsterdam.
  • I wish the skateboard wheels moved.
