This is way too enjoyable for a 2005 game that goes on sale for a dollar

Spelunky 2 overall is a pretty ok sequel to Spelunky 1. This includes many refinements to the original, such as what feels like slightly more responsive controls, more content and balancing which encourages you to use a larger variety of items than in the first game.

However, some of it's additions weren't exactly good ones. While accessing the background of a stage appears to give another layer of depth to a level, it mostly isn't used in interesting way (although does have a few good uses). Also, there are a lot of levels that will always have a certain shop or miniboss area, which does make the game feel repetitive with how frequent these are. Overall, I feel like the charm of random level feelings from the original has been forgotten in this game, with the strength of the procedural generation of the levels being downplayed significantly in this sequel.

Another thing to note is that I would say that the music definitely does not live up to that of the first game, with many levels only having one track that plays rather than 3, making the level themes much more repetitive.

Even though Spelunky 2 has more in terms of content than it's predecessor, I would recommend that you play the first game before this one. Otherwise, most things that made spelunky great are still here, while the increase in difficulty should be fun to tackle for more veteran players.

So like, a lot of the people who have talked about this game talk about how good the story is overall, especially in how it discusses mental illness. And I did enjoy it and the voice sounds did make me laugh sometimes.
However, the strongest area of this game is by far the platforming. I haven't played any platformer that gives you as many options as Celeste. This includes jumping, dashing and several other more advanced techniques like the dash jump, that lets you gain a lot of distance and an extra mid air dash. However, these all require quite a bit of practice to be able to perform consistently, with pretty tight timing.

This game absolutely shines when it's played at the highest level, as with Madeline's 8 possible directions for dashing and control over stuff like how long you want the dash to be, how fast you want to exit certain platforms, there is often a lot of creative freedom with how you approach any level. This makes speedrunning the game or trying to play it's hardest levels really fun. While this can get really difficult, (which i forgot to mention, Celeste is REALLY hard) experimenting with different "speedrun tactics" can keep dying 1000s of times from being boring.

You don't need to play Celeste a lot for it to be good, however. The first set of levels are brilliant by themselves with how many unique mechanics they have (which are intelligently recycled in levels that have conflicting mechanics to change how players view them).

For people who struggle to get into the game because of it's difficulty, Assist mode is great for that as well, giving options for people who may not have good reaction times, aren't as precise or aren't that good at timing their dashes or jumps. The game doesn't shame the player in any way for using it as well, as achievements and collectables are still unlocked with Assist mode on, and anything that shows that you used Assist mode can easily be turned off by turning off Assist mode itself.

The only bad thing I can really say about this game is the presentation at times and that's really down to my personal taste (not saying that the animation isn't amazing though, because it really is).

As a game with many hours of content (at the time of making this review I've only just completed all of the game's levels without all of the collectables), I definitely recommend my favourite platformer to anyone who is a fan of the genre.

Verdict: 9.5/10

I've had a try of a few SF games but Skullgirls is truly the game that really got me into fighting games (for it is also the only fighting game i actually own) and it did a hell of a good job in doing so.

Even when I had no idea what I was doing in this game, I still loved it with all of it's creative characters, costume references and especially the animations, which I'd say are some of the most natural and well done in the genre. But the inputs are also somewhat generous that even learning some combos isn't too tricky most of the time (though there is still some trials that i cannot do at the moment). Combo's themselves are even quite easy to invent yourself once you learn how the many types of knockdowns / bounces / etc works (and the game teaches you this quite well).

"Resets" in this game, where you can restart your combo with a "mixup" to extend it and deal more damage are often complained about but honestly I like the importance of them in this game simply because it feels like you still have an impact in these situations, with how you can block the mixup if guessed right. However, that may just be personal taste.

One of the best things about this game too, is how cheap it is compared to other fighting games. This is likely because it's indie too, but if you're just trying out the genre, you don't have to commit too much in terms of money.

Overall, this is one of the my favorite games and I highly recommend this to fans and newcomers of the genre. You will die a lot at the start, but you will win with practice, and mastering the depth and complexity of comboing, playing neutral and everything in this game is the true joy of playing Skullgirls (hopefully that motivates you to get past your first online matches).

tldr; buy the game lol

"Hmmm... Should I get this game? Is it good to enough? Will I enjoy it?"

JUST BUY THIS GAME ALREADY

This game is so good and I might only have like five hours on it at the time of writing this but Im already loving it and it's only going to become better. You can do so much stuff everyday that I feel bad if I missed something out. Also, the amount of depth I've seen in the characters and the friendship system is amazing

However, there are a few annoyances like the odd hitbox on the quest sheet or how it takes so long to get to places sometimes but these are made up for by there being so many upsides!

Honestly one of the best games I have played in a while! 10/10

SpeedRunners, I never thought I would enjoy this game until I actually played it.
It's a high adrenaline game that always forces you to be thinking about what to do next.
But this game has quite a few pros and cons.

PROS:
- Fun
- Challenging but not too annoying
- Unique Characters that aren't just a cosmetic upgrade, but are treated like a whole new person
- Many ways to play, including a story mode.
- The way the game is made, you can play it for a long time and it won't get old
- The game is really rewarding when things start going your way.

CONS:

- Story mode can get a bit boring
- After you have become a complete expert at the game and you don't have anyone to play with, you may want to use multiplayer, which can be laggy.
- The running can get a bit repetitive after a long time.

OVERALL:

The game is really fun at the moment and is great, only dropped down by multiplayer and repetitivity. 8/10

This game gives humor, advanced combat, many gameplay options, many levels, many characters and is a whole lot of fun. It would be a shame not to buy this game
