A pale imitation of the original Ishin, worth for playing for the story but it is ruined by the Card-Based combat (You can choose not to use them, but the bosses will still have magic attacks) as well as the fanservice towards Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 7, replacing both returning character faces from other yakuza games as well as original faces such as Takechi Hanpeita's. Still somewhat fun, but overall not that great.

I wish I could give a "moderate" recommendation rather than a binary yes or no - I got to try this with the 2hr trial.

First of all, two hours is not enough to trial this game. I wouldn't have even gotten out of the introductory segment had I not rushed character creation really quickly, I hope Capcom figures that out and gives us a little more time because I just got to a point where I bought my own armor and was about to go on some proper questing.

Second of all, It looks promising. I haven't finished the first DD but it's close, just that everything feels a lot more weighty. The biggest issue is performance, it is unjustifiable how badly this game runs and I don't have a terrible rig - feels like yet another modern game that heavily relies on upscaling tech to get its frames in. I might consider getting it on console instead simply for the performance, but the price tag is still too damn hefty.

As for all of the other complaints people had, regarding MTX, I hope people realize that majority if not everything from what they're selling is stuff you can just get in the game by playing. I won't deny that it's predatory that they still sell it to you like this, especially for people that aren't familiar with Dragon's Dogma or people who fail to do a little bit of extra research.

tldr: 2 hr trial period too short, runs bad on pc (relies on stuff like dlss or fsr), not a bad game - seems promising, too damn expensive. I hope to experience the game sometime later when it's much cheaper on a console sale.

Two years of waiting and they deliver this masterpiece. Thank you for everything, FromSoftware. Thank you Miyazaki. This was an incredible experience and a work of art. I have no words.

This game has left a gaping hole in my heart, and I can't forgive it for that. I can't believe they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the story so bad. If you really, truly, deeply care about the series - and you're coming fresh out of the masterpiece of a story, conclusion, and promises that Gaiden made (with the backing of the entire series), please. Maybe get it on a sale, the gameplay's much better than 7's, it's very engaging, its got your usual Yakuza gimmicks to have fun with - but the story and the poor decisions in it will kill you. There were beautiful moments in it, but the amount of missed opportunities and downright insulting decisions is just too damn much. If you really, truly, deeply care about the story - don't get it. If you can't satisfy your curiosity and aren't in it for primarily the gameplay, just watch a playthrough / cutscenes and see for yourself. I'll probably continue playing this here and there if I wanna wrap up the achievements or mess around, or try to delude myself, but it brings far too much pain to me.

This thing is a product of it's time. Agonizing in the other half of the game, a lot of poor checkpoints and a lot of driving across the entire map - but I think it's worth a play, to see what value the remake has, which I will be playing shortly.

Really quickly teaches you what a skill issue is.

Edit: "Facing Liming Hui" arena challenge is something I never want to play again. My fingers hurt and my nerves are frayed. Phenomenal game.
