Rimworld is an amazing game but I never really understood why it was called a story generator. Sure it relies a bit on RNG but that applies to all games. It was only when I thought about how starkly colonies ingame would appear to others that It made sense. For example:

Imagine coming to a settlement called "Haven" to trade, and when you arrive there are weapons and skulls scattered as far as you can see. No blood or bodies, just skulls that have been ripped out and weapons laid to rest. The trees are burnt but the settlement seems unharmed.

The governor comes out to greet you, Dressed head to toe in advanced battle armor adorned with gold and eltex, a symbol of wealth contrasting the utilitarian nature of her armor. She seems friendly enough but you can't help but notice the charge rifle on her side, the knife in her belt and the unsettling feeling that her emotions are forced. She offers a wide variety of exotic items for sale including "fresh" organs that she assures you have been ethically sourced... whatever that means.

You leave the settlement having made a profitable trade and a better relationship with these strange people who seem friendly enough, but this is the Rim after all... friendly and peaceful folk wouldn't have survived this long.
