Controls are intuitive, responsive and fun to use. The game feels responsive and punchy. If you like pvp especially this is a must have.

The game is incredibly fun, the core gameplay loop is a refinement of the modern monster formula, the fights are cinematic and feel appropriately dramatic, the story is even worth somewhat paying attention to for once.

HOWEVER, this game suffers from two major issues that keep it from being a solid recommend to everyone.
Content and Performance. The game has been out for 9 months and still doesn't have that much beyond the basegame to sink your teeth into, you might get a solid 60-70 hours out of the game if you don't seek to grind HR or go for your best in slot equipment but other monster hunter games available on Steam provide more bang for your buck. This is unfortunately part of the cycle for Monster Hunter as the games add and add with event quests and title updates, and it has been so since World. When this game gets it's dlc that adds G-rank (Master Rank) then the full experience will be here, I am excited to see what they add when it gets to there. But right now if you want a full experience you would be better served with World or Rise.

And that is not even touching on the major bugbear of this game. Performance issues... These have been plagueing the game since the initial launch and still quite frankly cause a lot of difficulty with enjoying the game sustainably. Supposedly the next update (title Update 4) will bring along with it many bug fixes and performance changes, however I advise waiting to see the community verdict as to whether they hit the mark or not. If they fix these issues with Title Update 4 then fantastic, fully recommend giving the game a try as long as you don't mind a shorter than normal experience for a monster hunter entry.

TL;DR
Performance bad, needs fixes. Maybe TU 4 fixes things? Read other reviews post release.
Content good, but not enough. If you want a full game get World/Rise or wait til Wilds gets Master Rank dlc.

I struggled to find the words to adequately describe this game. It's frustrating and RNG dependant to have the run required to unlock most things. It's painful to have a great run die because of the nature of the enemies piling up in 3d space, pushing you up into other enemies and instantly killing you. That so many weapons and tomes are borderline worthless that taking them threatens your run. And yet, as I continue to play on and on, finally getting a run on the leaderboard, a true once in a lifetime run. I can only say that I had fun. I had fun, and that is all a video game is for at the end of the day.
Should you try and unlock every character? No.
Should you feel required to get every weapon? Every item? Every tome? No.
Should you feel compelled to shape your gameplay to achieve these tasks... Again, no.
But is it fun? Yes, at the end of the day it is fun. Frustrating but ultimately fun.

Really enjoyed the experience thus far, I would absolutely recommend this with wholeheartedly. I would also advise new players to be smart with the generous amount of gems and resources available within the first days and hours of play. Focus on a deck archetype you want to play that you feel you can climb with and build towards that. Craft the SR or UR card from that deck you want to play and you will unlock the secret pack for that archetype (A curated pack type featuring one or two archetypes you unlock for purchase for 24 hours), Make sure you do the solo content as that gives you some base frameworks for a few decks and unlocks the secret packs of those decks. And finally spend 600 of the gems you get for free on the GOLD duel pass, You will have an huge excess of gems but the pass will enable you to recoup a lot of value from your ranked play. With these tips in mind I think newer players can have a better time with the game as after the initial very generous amount of resources, Gems are relatively thin on the ground.

It's amazing how much personality a developer can put into different shaped quadrilaterals

Really Interesting game, Would recommend it to anyone, Especially since you're supporting an indie developer.
