It's SOooOOO close to being a perfect game for me, but the scaling and difficulty spikes are just brutal. This game is a beautiful bastard mix of Risk of Rain 2, Muck, and Vampire Survivors, but Despite the potential for really excellent synergies, I don't feel like there's like, true game breaking combos? I dunno. I just came off a run where I was nuking everything in my path, hit the final boss and mid-fight got stuck on a rock and died in 4 seconds from full health and 17 aegis. ._.
Also. Like, pet peeve here, but the final boss is just a health-scaled version of the same boss you've fought for two stages. It's not interesting, it's a slog. It takes a long time to whittle it down even when you have crazy dps, and if you misstep once you're dead.
It's just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ close and that makes me want to chew through my drywall.

This is a fantastic game. A short experience but not one that leaves you wanting. It's so wonderful, condensed and just. like damn, what a great story. also it's AWFUL to wander around with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ai visor. 10000/10 im gonna make everyone I know play it.

Editing to add: like, there's a lot of thought and reasoning put into why it displays what it does. there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ logic to it all and it's horrible and beautiful

A very tense experience with themes, should you choose to engage with them, that will leave you feeling introspective and wondering. It's short, it's interesting, it's scary! Play it! :)

This game is, and you'll never believe this, about digging a hole. It is without question, a game where you dig a hole. 10/10 exactly as advertised.

I don't mind bad graphics in games, it's okay for it to be rough around the edges. The game has some heart, there's cute elements, but it is mind-numbingly repetitive and oddly paced. There is a day night cycle but no personal energy or enforced bedtime, i think you could never sleep if you chose? Which is wild. But your game progression is gated behind the vegetables you grow, so it's very VERY easy to run out of stuff to do until your vegetables grow. Oddly, you also get quest items before you get the quests.
I want to love it, but it's too much the same thing over and over.

Genuinely some of the best horror mechanics I've ever played with. Absolutely fantastic experience.

For a game about diving, it has no depth. If you told me this was originally a mobile game with 10 currencies or a live service with time gates I would believe you. Dave the Diver feels like it's terrified I'll lose interest at any second so it keeps showing me new things it can do.

It's such a shame because I really enjoy the fishing and restaurant, but even those get stale because while the game is so busy trying to impress you, it does nothing to improve or freshen it's foundational mechanics and gameplay loop. You can upgrade your equipment but there's never an interesting mechanical change to it.

Also I want to make a note that everyone you meet is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. To you specifically. Maybe half the people you meet will also make a jab at you for being fat. Cool! neat! There's no depth here either - no dialogue choices, when you talk to people they'll just repeat the same one line over and over.

One last frustration. The game will not. leave. you. alone. I don't think I played a single day that wasn't interrupted. Cutscenes, phone calls, notification pings. You can't turn off quest notifications either btw. It will always be flashing at you in the corner. You can't opt out or skip the dialogue ... you can't even choose when to engage with it. The game just keeps dumping it on you all the time. Even if I personally choose to try and ignore all the extras and JUST fish and sell, I can't! I am constantly interrupted by new things I can't say no to.

It really is a shame because I want to like it. So badly.

Zomboid is a difficult, tense, and slow game. It's a struggle to live and most of the time you won't - but damn it's satisfying when you do. Zomboid has an incredible amount of depth as well - and mostly it will follow real life logic. If you're struggling with something, it's not too hard to go "how does this work irl, what would I do?" and that works most of the time! which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick.

It's a short game ~4 hoursish, but the atmosphere is top notch, and visuals are literally some of the best I have /ever/ seen in a game, and it's well worth the play. Play the game. do it.
