Well, having played since the early days of the beta of this game, I can confidently say that I never thought I would continue to play for the story, not for the game play. Don't get me wrong, the game play is pretty great, very satisfying. But it was the story that actually kept me hooked; I would have never seen the ending coming at the beginning of the game.

Here's hoping they add a level editor, or connect it to the steam workshop. I can only imagine what levels are still out there, waiting to be washed.

This game is quite good, the entire style of it I actually find pleasingly relaxing. Brennet Foddy's commentary is often humorous when you fail, and his quotes can be inspiring. The music when you fail can be a nice change of pace from the empyness of the backround noise and is usually a relaxing peace to help calm you down.

The gameplay is. . . Unique. In a good and bad way. The game itself is fun, rewarding, and enjoyable. You know what isn't? The controls. The entire reason this game is frustrating and quite impossible at times is completly the fault of the controls. First, it is REQUIRED to have a large amount of space to use your mouse. Even on the highest sesitivity (which I don't recommend you play at) can be very non-sesitive. This is offset by the cursor randomly flying around at high speeds to fling your character in all directions. Most likely, off of a cliff. Also, the cursor will, for some god-forsaken reason, try to return to the same place on your computer screen when you move the character a drastic amount. This often results in making a jump perfectly fine, and then having the cursor flick for no reason and having your character go flying. Why that was considered a game mechanic is completly beyond me.

Would I recommend playing this? I would love to. Its a fun and unique experience that no other game on the market can quite replicate. But I would have to go with no. A very solid no. This game is fun, for about 2 minutes each time you boot it up. Then you will remember the pain that the absolutely terrible controls caused. To be honest, I would not even recommend playing it even if you got it for free. If the floaty controls were fixed, it would be 10/10, right now, 2/10.

Coming back to this years later, I never realized just how much of a masterpiece this game is. After getting to the top of the mountain I experienced a feeling, a high, that nothing else has ever been able to replicate. The combination of the graphics, the music, and the act of being over created an experience that I doubt I will ever be able to replicate.

Are the controls bad? Yeah. Does it make this game not worth playing? No. This game is such an incredibly unique experience that I wish people who are not even in to playing games would play this. It truly shaped my perspective on life and many people would benefit from the message this game provides.

I'm changing my review of this game to a positive one, but leaving the old part up. I kinda wish I could tell Bennett Foddy how much of an impact such a simple game has made on my life.

Even after seeing someone play this game on Youtube, it is still a fantasic experence, and well worth the money. Great gameplay, good humor, and superb soundtrack. Can't recomend this enough if you are a fan of platformers.
