This was my first souls game I sat down and played for more than an hour, I tried the first when it came out, but I didn't get far. Elden Ring however is engaging, thrilling, difficult but rewarding, and it was a blast. There can be extremely difficult bosses and hairpulling moments, but after practicing and improving, you'll surpass them. The beautiful open-world design with massive explorability coupled with the dense dungeons and catacombs scattered across the lands leave you with the best of both worlds, freedom and purpose. This is probably the best game I've played since Disco Elysium, although they're very dissimilar. I would highly recommend it, and recommend you investigate the howling at the mistwoods.

Extremely intricate and complex game with an avalanche of content for new-players to catch up with, and mechanics from previous leagues to familiarize, but overall one of the best arpg's out there. I first played Path of Exile, and afterwards tried diablo 3 but was extremely disappointed by how 'pre-determined' things felt in diablo, whereas with path of exile, after you've acquainted yourself with some in's-and-out's of character building, you could create a character almost exactly how you like. It's something to sink plenty of hours into, so long as you enjoy a bit of 'varied repetition.'
