Updated 25/11/2020: I thought I should revisit this. There has been improvement in server stability and Steam issues seem to have been resolved. As such this is switching back to a recommend as the game is a lot of fun.

Updated 26/10/2019: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Incompetence has turned into contempt for their EU customers. Repeated login issues that are never fixed.

Updated 30/01/2019: Access to this game and stability once in the game has been incredibly poor lately on the EU servers, with extended periods of downtime preventin paying customers from accessing the game. This issue is exacerbated by the complete absence of any communication from ZoS, which is a symptom of a general disdain for their EU playerbase.

Updated: Steam issues now fixed.

This is a fantastic game when you can access it.

Unfortunately lately you are regularly unable to login as a Steam user. There is minimal communication from the developer and any compensation offered is paultry (one crate for several days of lost subscription time).

This issue has been ongoing for far too long and the customer service is appaling.

I have played quite a few hours now, and I am slightly bemused by the mixed reviews... don't get me wrong, the game is mediocre, but it is fun, and there is nothing fundamentally negative about it that would tip me over into a thumbs down... anyway, pros and cons:

PROS

good graphics
Nice aesthetic and build customisation
Fun(ish) combat
A nice world to explore.
Relatively casual

CONS
Unfathomable skill/ eqip advancement... I mean it is superficially straight forward- but try min-maxing.... who the ♥♥♥♥ knows what does what better than what?
Repetitive gameplay
Sluggish controls and getting stuck in anaimations- also a dodge would be so useful
Lack of content
Very linear

I give this a thumbs up, but only because it is priced at about the right level for the content you can expect.

In terms of gameplay, you work your way through hack and slash isometric maps, collect gear and loot, which you either equip or exchange for stat gains or better gear. Completing maps earns you tickets to "Fight The Dragon".

The maps usually involve a lot of clicking and running, as well as puzzles revolving largely around pressure pads and levers hidden within maze-like environments. Fighting the dragon is simply an arena against a boss.

This is reasonably fun for a short period of time, but it has little longevity.

The best part of the game is the creator, where you can design and build your own maps and campaigns. Despite the limiting graphics, there is actually a lot of freedom to build from the ground up, create relatively complex puzzles and interesting environments. Unfortunately, as always with these games, the maps you produce tend to get lost amongst a lot of crap, or go unnoticed beside those few early maps that received "thumbs ups" so show up in most people's searches.

I give this a tentative recommendation. It is fun but has little longevity.

This is a great game, and it has the accolade of being the only game that has ever elicited real tears from me (in Episode 4). In terms of point and click adventures, it is slick with a fantastic and immersive story and a truly innovative and engaging central gameplay conceit.

In terms of negatives, there are two: -

The first is that some of the early knowingly trendy and angsty dialogue will be a little cringe inducing for anyone beyond their teenage years. Fortunately this was only an issue in the first episode, and I urge anyone who is offput by this to stick with it.

The second is with Episode 5. It felt as if the story reached a natural conclusion early in Episode 5, but it then proceeds through multiple endings that have the effect of devaluing everything that went before. This is a real shame as the conclusion is the weakest part of the game, and swiftly becomes overlong and drawn-out. There are several chapters in the middle of this episode that could and should have been cut for brevity and impact.

That said, my feelings towards this game are overwhelmingly positive.

This is exactly what it says. You design a plane, and despite the title, there is actually some complexity and real world physics at work on the designs you produce. You will spend a long time tweaking, altering, and going through a process of trial and error, in order to improve your design.

At this stage there is not much else to do. There is a limited map in which you can test your plane, dogfights against AI opponenents, races through hoops, and that is about it. But the fun is in building and improving your creations.

This is a short game, The levels are nicely designed, if nothing that hasn't been seen before. In terms of the feel of the game, think a poor man's Portal. The pretensions towards something greater than a fun way to while away an hour or so are perhaps a little misplaced, and you may eye-roll your way through some of the text.

But, it is free and it is fun enough.

The game is effectively a slightly more action-orientated point-and-click/ puzzle adventure. It shines in the quality of its art, animation, voice-acting and cut scenes. It takes place in a richly realised environment with an eclectic cast of fun and quirky characters, and it has moments of incredibly effective Pythonesque comedy.

I am finding it difficult to find any negatives for this first chapter. It was a lot of fun.

Note: I originally had this as a thumbs down, but the creation kit has changed my mind.

This game has great potential, but has a number of issues associated with its alpha state.

The game basically has four play modes: -

- Story; which does exactly what it says on the tin.
- Adventure; in which you jump into the world with some friendly NPC's and the foundations of a settlement to build upon once you have collected the prerequisite materials.
- Build; in which you are given free reign and unlimited materials to build whatever you want.
- Multi-player; in which you can set up a server with friends/ family.

The Bad: -

The combat is sluggish, locks you into animations and largely involves swinging a stick in the general vicinity of monsters.

The controls for vehicles (especially helicopters) need a rework (they are simply poorly realised currently).

The build and multi-player modes barely work, the map in build mode has such short draw distances that the use of any vehicle results in you driving off the edge of the map and dieing.

The story mode is the most complete, but it does involve some needless time sinks, and needs a lot more polish. It also stops part way through while the remainder is in development- but provides circa 20 hours of gameplay currently.

The Good: -

The story mode is fun (but is orientated towards gathering and crafting).

The creation system, in which you can design weapons and vehicles (wheel based or rotor based), is the high point of the game. Certain pre-made items are required such as a cockpit or energy cells, but beyond this you can create almost anything you set your mind upon. Of course to use these items in game (other than in the buggy build mode) you will need to collect the materials first. There are limitations to the system, for example, building a vast rectangle with rotors all over it will give you better overall stats than taking the time to build a realistic, aerodynamic chopper. Look at the time I have spent in game, most of them have been spent in the creation system. If this appeals to you, this game is worth buying.

In conclusion; this is clearly an alpha game, and as such it lacks a lot of polish and features, and is fairly buggy. Once the development has progressed it should be great fun.

Just completed the beta section and looking forward to the full release. It is a great adventure game with an intriguing story and full of atmosphere. Highly recommended.

It isn't really a game and takes only 5 minutes to complete; but those 5 minutes are highly recommended!
