HAWKEN is a fantastic flurry of metal, carnage, and sheer energy. The game fills a niche place in the market to be sure, but that dosen't mean you shouldn't try it.

The Good: GIANT MECHS WITH GIANT GUNS!! Really though, it's Michael Bay the Video Game. Huge mechs duking it out across a bunch of different maps. There's a whole host of mechs to choose from, depending on how you like to play. This game is NOT PAY TO WIN. IT JUST ISN'T. SO STOP SAYING THAT. Everything related to gameplay can be unlocked with in-game credits. Mechs, items, internals, the works. The only thing you have to pay for is swag, like paint jobs and different chassis.

The Bad: The previous devs (Adhesive) shut down, and left the game in limbo. Then Reloaded came along and picked this game up from the ashes. This just happened recently, and Adhesive really screwed the game up, so there's gonna long turnaround before the current team can actually release anything new. In the mean time, some balancing needs to happen, but nothing soulcrushing. This game plays like an arena shooter (UT04 for example), where the fast and maneuverable live. Not that this is bad, it just means there's a pretty strong learning curve.

The Ugly: Again, Reloaded got the short end of the stick when they got the game from Adhesive, so there's a host of bugs and balances that need to be worked out. There's stuff in the works to be sure, but it may be a while before we actually see any of that happen. The learning curve and grind have also been known to scare people off.

TL;DR Big machines, big explosions, big fun. Reloaded is stuck in the mud for the time being, but the game is still super fun. Also, check out the forums at https://community.playhawken.com/ These guys are super cool. Very welcoming and willing to help out a new player in need.

One of my favorite games ever. The creative freedom of a building game, the action of a shooter, all wrapped up on Mars. Really, I'm making this review because I think the community is being really hard on it, and I don't want that to scare off people looking to start this game.

The Good: It's like Legos, but way better. You can build whatever you want, get in fights with other people and their builds, and don't have to worry about stepping on them when you're done playing. The weapons could you a little tweaking, but they are relatively balanced. Each mode of transportation (wheels, hovers, walkers, etc.) each have a tactical role that they specialize in, leaving no resources wasted or made redundant. There's tons of stuff in the works, so there's plenty to look forward to.

The Bad: Like I said the weapons could use a little tweaking, but it won't ruin the game for you. Megas are a little homeless right now, but the devs have said they have plans. In the mean time though, not a whole lot of reason to do Mega builds. There's, like, four maps in rotation, and it's been that way for a very long time. No two games are alike, but knowing that a sniper is going be on THAT rock at THAT time can be a little grating.

The Ugly: The community can be really bipolar. Some people are nice as anything, but others are more toxic than Chernobyl. The community has also been really hard on this game since the anti-overtier update, which makes no sense. The ant-OT system in place now really levels the playing field for everyone, no matter what these yahoos are trying to say. It doesn't limit creativity, it doesn't hurt the game at all, and it isn't that big a deal. The game itself is rock solid, and I can't wait to see where they take it.

TL;DR Great game with lots of creativity and action. The community can be a pain in the rear, but don't let them scare you. Get building and get shooting! And remember, MOAR WHEEL MOAR GUNS

Space. Building. What, do you need more than that?

"Recommend" would be a strong word. This game is like an off brand Twinkie. Or an M. Knight Shamalan movie. Or an American "Top 40" song. It's impossibly generic, remarkably fake, ludicrously detrimental to your health, and yet, somehow, still mildly enjoyable.

The Good: The class system is robust, but still largely functional, the weapons are decently balanced, and it looks pretty darn good, while not being a massive resource eater.

The Bad: Absolutely no originality, the transition between levels is a Disneyland kiddie ride, and the conrtrols are a tad... off-putting (for me at least)

The Ugly: The "Crowned" items give this game a moderate case of "Pay2Win" Syndrome, and you help your teammates cllimb walls by shoving your fingers up their butts. :c

TL;DR: A nice, casual, generic, free shooter that's great for killing time. If Battlefield and Planetside 2 had a mentally damaged child, this would be it.

I love this game. For being made in a single week, and only having ONE content update, this game manages to create so much tension, and feeling, and amazing, it could put some big-name games to shame. And the mechanics are super fun to learn and use. Randomized level generation keeps things interesting, and the one hit death keeps a certain tension in the air that keeps you on your toes. The only two issues I have are as follows; no sprinting, and performance. No sprinting simply because if you happen to be crossing a large room or bridge with nothing around, navigation can be tedious. The performance thing is only an issue if you play full-screened. Just keep it in a window, with the appropriate level of detail, and you should be able to run it just fine.

This game is AWESOME. The scale and the action of this game is downright intoxicating. But a word of warning, this game doesn't have any round timers, game end, nothing like that. Not that I'm complaining, continuous battles are really cool, but this game can eat a lot of time very easily. Moral of the story, enjoy responsibly.
